Got a Gift card to the local custom shop for Christmas, saying "HID's". Just wondering if there is anything bad about them? Heard something about a transformer gets os hot it can melt plastics, idk if that is true or not but just making sure. im looking at getting somewhere in the 8k range. in my low beams and fogs. And since im at it im having the shop do a headlight restoration just to make it look a bit better. Any tips or "look out fors" would help!

cheap chinese ones will fail most likely , if you a get a good kit you dont have to worry about it, i just installed 5000k in lows and 3000k in fogs and no issues

8k is too blue for me I like the factory look 4300k or 5000k the higher you go the bluer it will get but you will get less light.

chocolat1701 is right , the ls have a nice cut off line too with hids but you may have to adjust the headlights lower

lot of people use ddm tuning , cheap and they are pretty good , depends what the price range is too , id say stay away from xentec slim kits

Gift Card is for 225. And I just looked up a ddm kit for around 50 bucks? thought they were a lot more than that.

To do it correctly (where the light goes where it is supposed to and is legal) is about $2400.

he prob means have projectors installed, although that may be the correct way its a lot of money , if you aim your headlight correctly you wont blind people and you ll be fine

they dnt look good on a ls unless you install em where the high beams are at

Joe is talking about the low beam bowls. The LS that came with stock HID, has a bowl and cap unique to the HIDs. Throwing a random HID kit into the non-HID LS is considered by some as dickish since you won't have the directed light or a cut off - essentially blinding people.

This exactly. The discounted price for the factory HID assemblies (with the correct low beam reflector bowl) is about $1200 for each one, therefore $2400 for both.

Just my .02 on DDM. I have 4500k in both lows and fogs, and while they're a bright white, a hint of blue is still there. If I could afford to atm, I would switch them out for another brand to get a stock HID bright white look.

And about the glare they produce like any HID bulb in a halogen housing, they NEED to be lowered significantly, which almost makes the switch pointless when it comes to light projection.

i lowered mine a bit, i still got good visibility and i do not blind anyone , there is no glare as you can see in my photos, the problem is the beam is bunched up in the middle and when it is to high you hit other cars with the beam
