My name is Ryan. I have been on here for a few months when i bought my LS8. I have had countless problems with the car including a bad master cylinder, bad rear brake calipers (couldnt get them to bust loose with a c-clamp, and yes i did open the bleeder valve) bad transmission solenoid, very bad brake pads all the way around, brown brake fluid in the brake lines, and now the timing chain tensioner guides (I Think). My car has the ticking when i start it up for about one second. What I am wondering is what is bad? I read in a discussion that the plastic that holds the guides in can break. I do not know which tensioner they are talking about. I have an intermittent vibration that shakes the steering wheel and shakes the car above seventy miles an hour. I think it may be a ball joint. Does anyone have any similar problems? Where the hell can i find a Chiltons at for this thing? This site has helped me fix everything so far with perfect results. Please help or I am screwed with an $1800 bill for the tensioners.

What year is your car?
If it is 2003 or newer, then the manual posted on line should do for you.

Chiltons is useless. Get a used factory manual on e-bay, or a new one from Helm. You can also subscribe online.

You made a big mistake with your rear calipers. They were probably okay until you put the C-clamp on them. You can't use a C-clamp to compress them. The piston has to be screwed in while pressure is being applied. You need a brake tool like this one.

Oops

Well i did screw up on the calipers then. Thank you for the manual info. It is actually going to help me alot. Is that toolset available for rent at like advance or autozone? I dont think that i could perform the tensioner fix so how much would it be to get fixed at a nondealershop?

I don't know about the cost for the tensioner or labor, but I do believe that a similar brake tool can be rented or borrowed from some of the auto parts stores. I think that some just require a deposit that is refunded in full when you return the tool, undamaged.

While your noise could be the chains, it might also be a lash adjustment needed on the valves (shims are added to adjust). (I think that chain issues are more common.)
