I picked up another Mark yesterday. I was under the impression that the motor was bad. It may very well be. I just turned it over and the engin won't stay on without help. As long as I give it gas it will start. Soon as I let of the gas it dies immediately. If I turn the key to start it it just turns over as if it's starved of gas. I am leaning towards a bad fuel pump. Any thoughts?

The car is a 98. It's been sitting a year. When the previous owner parked it a year ago. It was having issues so they parked it.

That's good to know. I will be getting one in addition to an oil change and plugs. So a bad IAC will give the illusion of the car turning over without starting?

My friend has an 01 Mustang GT that had the exact same symptom. She had to hold down the gas to keep it running. I replaced the IAC for her and the problem was gone.

Since on a Gen2 the IAC is right on the top of the Throttle body on upper intake, its a very fast check. and I do believe this is one of the more common failures for hard start/Rough Idle.

My 97 at a light went from 750 rpm's to about 400 and almost stalled. Did this twice so I change the IAC and all is well again.

Well the good news is I change the IAC and the car started right up. The bad news is it has a knock coming from the passenger side head.

You most likely spit off one of the primary intake rockers? I would have that VC off in sec to poke around.

OK, I'll poke around tomorrow. It's a bit hot now. So it can possibly something minor?

If your lucky it did what I said and its laying there getting whacked by the cam. Pop it back in and go , if its that. I'm gonna be the glass half full guy here. LOL
