Hi folks,

Been awhile since Ive been on here; last night site was not working?

Anyways, As of last night my 2000 Lincoln LS V8 (111,111 miles) (No joke) has been having its problems. I went to leave work and it shuttered in 3rd & 4th gear and then refused to shift to 5th. With that being said, it threw a "check transmission" with "E" code.

Basically limp mode.. I turn car off and restart; I can drive a little bit. Without 5th gear im limited to 60MPH @ 3200RPM

Took it to reputable car shop, I know the guys. Hooked up computer diag tool. And pulled following codes:

P0731, P0733, P0734 & P0741 -- To do with bad gear ratio and to do with TCC valve stuck / bad clutch?

Transmission guy says It needs a rebuild and oil smells burnt... be $1700-1900 for a rebuild; without taxes. This is quite alot of cash in which I do not have at this time.

Per my research online, Ive seen people have same issue with 4th, 5th gear and it turn out to the bad solenoid packs and valve body springs.

Whats your guys opinions? All info and suggestions welcome.

Mr car is at the shop with the same exact codes (reputable shop here as well- highly recommended by a couple Ford Techs I know)

same diagnosis -metal shavings on the magnet, burnt smell, etc. I'm paying 2400 out the door. LOTS of money but I miss the car. It's been sititng for 3 months.

I wanted to try the Solenoid pack and springs but was worried I'd be chasing down a problem that wont fully be resolved without a rebuild. my car has just over 50K on it.

if you're gonna dump it - try the used one but you never know what you're gonna get

If you don't want to keep it just crash it... Or park near a scenic overlook and .... hmm was having trans problems, maybe park didn't latch :D

Just Kidding, good luck.

hah, I know right ;). I was condering something along those lines today while reviewing my options.

I owe over 6k on the car still.

Would someone mind reviewing the transmission i found on ebay? Seems to have 12,800 miles.

Unfortunately I think its 129,876 miles. The decimal drops off after 100k.. I don't see a decimal.

I think it said they give a 6 month warranty though... so If you plan on ditching the car soon, it might work out for you.

I was going to recommend Carparts also. They have 15+ of them for 250 to 350. You really can't get cheaper then that. I just bought an engine and trans for my sisters car off their site.
