I read here more than I post, searching usually gives me the answer i need, however Ive had trouble finding a good answer to this question.

I have a Sirius Sat unit and a TomTom One New edition. My question is how do I "hard wire" these into the fuse panel so that they turn on and off with the radio?? I'd like them to turn off when I open the door like the radio does. I would like to do this the right way, So could someone please instruct me on the safest way to wire these in?? Im capable of doing the work, Im just hesitant when it comes to wiring and electricity, I like to avoid small fires. The satelite unit is in the windshield near the rearview mirror, and the nav is where the ashtray used to be.

Right now I have cigarette lighter plugs for everything. It makes me crazy seeing all of the clutter. Ive done many searches on the site here and I cant locate a specific answer to my dilemma.

Thanks in advance

I have an 01 V8. it has the 6 disc alpine in dash. Should I just run the wires to a spare fuse in the fuse panel?? or should I tap right into the radio power??

Sorry, I have gen II wiring diagrams, but I don't know anything about gen I.
As far as current drain goes, you should be safe to patch in behind the radio. I don't know if that will get you the feature of not turning off till the door is opened. On some years (04 for example), the radio had a door switch input and it decided itself when to turn off. However, I have an 06 that has the radio power turn off delayed. On the 04, what you want was still possible. I just had to find the delayed power wire for the power windows.

i would just tap the pos+ in to the acc wire at the radio harness and ground it at the radio frame. (like the screw that holds the climate controls in) That way it would turn on and off by the key. this will not have the retained accesory power though. just make sure you DO NOT JUST CUT OFF the cig lighter adapter as both devices have voltage reducers in the adapter (6 volts)
