Trouble shooting help needed:
2000 LS V6 approx 95k.

Heres the short version of the story. Today I go outside and am gonna wash my car when I get a brilliant Idea to do some engine bay detailing. I start my car and she revs right up so I pull her into the driveway. I do a little interior detail and then pop the hood. I filled up the washer fluid and It overflowed a little bit. Then I get my bucket and sponge and with spic and span cleaner and a little water I start cleaning. I poured a little water over a few parts of the engine like the intake manifold and engine cover ect, a decent amount of water definitely was trickling down into the bowels of the engine bay and some got into the spark plug wells (on the outside). I buffed off the fenders and closed the hood. I started her up to drive to the diner with my mom and something was terribly wrong. The car seems almost dead , like there isnt enough air getting into the engine. Symptoms include Immediate engine light, strong odor of gas coming out of the exhaust, and a strange vaccum suction noise when the engine gets cut off. I called up my friend and he suggested that I take the car to a local Shop. I said "no way jose" If I do need to run codes I doing it the old fashion way, going to auto zone and pretending im gonna spend money there. Basically, I need help if anybody knows how this can be remedied, I refuse to go to the lincoln dealer unless it is an extreme emergency, the same lincoln dealer that charged my blind ass $1500 for a fuel injector and a coil. Right now the car is sitting in the street and im gonna borrow my moms car for work today and tomorrow (unfortunately I work sundays). Im hoping that maybe i got water into something and a day or two of airing out will remedy the problem. Idk. Please Help! (pie and juice for whoever can help me :) )

If it was fine before you got water all over the motor, leave the hood up and let it air dry. Sounds like you got water into the coil wells, which would give you the rich smelling exhaust since the coils weren't firing to burn that fuel.

And don't go submerging your motor in water any more, foolio. :D

There are no coil covers on the 2000 V6, so the right bank, where you can't see with the intake in place, is probably flooded out. If you do it yourself, you will be able to dry it. You'll need to pop the coils out and use compressed air to blow the spark plug wells dry. As a way to save time, assume that the problem is on the left bank (driver's side). Take off the trim dress-up cover and unplug and remove each coil. Use the air to blow them plug wells dry. Blow out the coils where they plug onto the spark plugs while you have them out. Re-assemble and try starting and running it. If it is no better, plan b would be to do the same thing after you remove the intake. Have fun doing that.

The little flange seals on the coils are not waterproof, and as such, you never want to run any water over them.

after i had a ford body shop repair damage from a truck putting its trailer hitch through my bumper on my 1st gen V6, they power washed under my hood while i was signing all the papers. they started the car and dorve it around to me, and the guy got out and told me, this thing runs like sh!t, you should defintly have it looked at. i was so mad, how do you bring a car in for a new bumper and a little paint and your car gets messed up. so they gave me the sweetest little focus to drive for the day. the next day the guy calls me and says that they went to pull the car into the shop to work on it today and the problem just went away. moral of the story, KEEP THE MOTOR DRY!

I started her up today and the problem has gone away, but the Check Engine Light remains.......I shall investigate further.

Im still misfiring like a bastard. I think its time for plugs and coils....I went to autozone and they plugged in the computer, the readout was cylinder misfire on 1-6 excluding 5 (I think, it might have been all 6)...anybody have advice on this misfire problem, like how should I decide which coils to replace? and If I replace the coils are there any other parts that need to go along with it like gaskets...I wanna do spark plugs regardless...especially if I have to take the intake manifold off to get to the coils.... lemme know what you think
