Help, need info on a TSB

I believe the 00-02 have the oils seal issue only, 03 and above should be fine, you could always take a look for yourself. Look for oil in the plug wells and oil leaks around the side.

I did find a TSB on the dip stick, seems people have been reporting lower oil levels and ford says that its just an error on the safe marks on the dip stick. The TSB affects 02-03 v6 & v8 cars and calls for the dealer to replace the dip stick with a new one with a wider safe range. The way to tell if this ha been done is the old dip stick actually has "min" and "max" written on them, looks like in the TSB the new one doesnt have any writing on it and has a wider range. The TSB # is 03-8-3
 
early 03's used the old gaskets and they failed (mine did)
 
I don't. The easy way to find out is to pull some coils and see if there's oil in there LOL. You understand that the TSB is just a bulletin right? There was no recall and the dealer will not fix for free unless it's under warranty and the gaskets are bad. Not trying to insult you just an FYI cause a lot of folks think TSB = free repair:)

Yeah I understand that the TSB is meant for info for the dealerships, not a recall and I dont take it as an insult.:D My angle is, I still have 5k miles of warranty left and if I do have the problem I want to get it warrantied while I still can.
 
pull your coils and see if there's oil in there. if there is then you can demand to have the gaskets replaced.
 
and if there's no oil in there then you don't have the problem "yet"

Guess I'll go ahead and change the plugs and see what I got. Is there any plug that LS V8 owners prefer to use?
 
I like OEM iridium style motorcraft or autolite, but I've been curious about the E3 plugs.
 
I agree all the votes on this board seem to point back to the oem plug.
 
I'm pretty sure Motorcraft are, but I think motorcraft makes autolite or vice versu
 
Stock plugs are NGK branded motorcraft, NGK is good stuff.

Also beware guys the 03 that have vvt might use the pre 03 cam cover gasket.

example I just did cam covers on a 03 LS, I got the cam cover kit for an 03 LS. Its different than the 2000-2002 kit because it comes with a seal for the VVT solenoid.

I went to put the cam cover gasket on and it woudlnt fit. Turns out it was a 2000 - 2002 cam cover with VVT. So I had to use a 2000-2002 cam cover gasket.

So if the car has Variable Valve Timing its the old style cam cover and prone to leaking but if it doesnt have VVT then most likely wont have any leaking issues? How do I tell what mine is?
 
no all GREY gaskets leaked. VVT was introduced in 03. Early 03's (like mine) still got crappy GREY gaskets. Replacement gaskets are all BLACK IIRC.

Thanks for the useful info, can I see the edge of the gasket without pulling the V/C?
