So before anyone gets mad for starting a new thread on exhausts. I know theres a lot, ive read a lot of them. But i wanted one specific to my car, and its not a whole lot i need. It's just that I dont have much knowledge about exhaust so I just wanted some opinions from different people. So i have an 03 V6 and wanted to redo my exhaust. I wanted my car to have that "muscle" car sound at idle, acceleration, and crusie also. (If thats possible). My thing is that i want it to be LOUD, but not have that crackling (or "farting") noise to it. Once again, if thats possible. And i feel like it is because I've been watching videos and I've come to a conclusion that Flowmaster 40s, with straight pipe in place of the resonator are what can give me what i want. Correct me if im wrong please. Is there anything else other than the flowmasters that i can get? Also, i dont care much for performance but deff dont want my gas mileage going to crap either. Sorry if im picky and difficult :/ Another question, i know that the muffler has to be a 2.25" in and out... but does it have to be an offset one or center one? ONE LAST question, does having an X pipe make any difference to the sound? Thanks a million to whoever can help me out. Once again I am sorry for all the complicated questions and another thread about exhaust but I will appreciate the help A LOT. Thank you once again for the help =)

The V6 will NEVER have a non-raspy sound at higher RPM.

heres the problem, muscle cars sound that way because of the big block pushrod motors they usually have, there is no way that a small displacement twin cam can ever sound near the same.

heres the problem, all the parts that mellow out any raspyness also muffle the sound and keep it from being too loud, if you go the route of loud your gonna have some rasp along with it

thats pretty much the system i started with. i replaced my mufflers with a set of 40 series delta flows, which gave me the deeper at idle and getting on it that i wanted but wasn't as loud as i wanted. later i replaced the resonators with straight pipes which got it exactly where i wanted it volume wise but did give it a little rasp.

Is there anything else other than the flowmasters that i can get?
yes, there are hundreds of brands, most sound a little different depending on what your looking for. personally for me, even though flowmaster isn't always the best performing muffler, they do give the LS about the closest thing to a push rod sound your gonna get. a lot of other brands tend to sound... too refined or a lot more european sounding

i know that the muffler has to be a 2.25" in and out... but does it have to be an offset one or center one?
I went with center in and offset out to get it leveled the best with the mufflers mostly up and up with a slight tilt to get the tips lined up right

does having an X pipe make any difference to the sound?
yes, usually a lot

Ordered flowmaster 40s... going to be getting them installed on monday or tuesday and im gonna leave the H pipe and resonators on at first and if i dont like the sound ill have them cut off and get an X pipe. thanks for all the info and sorry for disappearing. my dad was at hospital er for the past week and things got a bit crazy. hes all good now though.

I had 40 series flows on my v8 charger and they sounded okay , I advise keep the resonators on Or it will sound loud all the time

only way to get a v6 to sound deep is to remove the mufflers, leave the resonator and cats, and put long, large diameter tips on them.

im getting the flowmaster 40s installed tomorrow :O hopefully they sound good! obviously they will be louder but im hoping its what i want. and about the tips... do you think the shop can use my stock tips? I kinda didn't order any tips cause theyre all so damn expensive! btw... i just saw your thread a couple minutes ago, Im in love with your car! BIG thumbs up to it =)

Would you mind taking a video or sound clip of start-up, idle, and acceleration since this is the same situation I am in? Thanks!
