HELP!!! Keys locked inside!

Wouldn't you know it, every seat is latched tight! i will try pulling osme fuses in the passenger kick and in the engine bay. I will look for ones marked for PCM and FEM. But, it looks like I will have to call a locksmith or local dealer to get them to "pick" the trunk lock on the LS. Somedays I hate myself!

One other suggestion. If you're inside the car and the trunk button won't work, try finding another 12v source and "hotwire" the release. Remove the button, unplug it, and apply 12v to the side going to the trunk. That should pop it. <<<DISCLAIMER>>> I am not positive how this system works on this particular car. It could use a ground side switch through a relay or module instead of 12v...but that would be the first time I've seen that.
Sounds like a good idea...

shltn,

give me a few minutes to take some pics of the seat latch releases on my 2000 ls. I think you might be able release it if you had and idea of where you where jabbing.

this for the passanger side back seat that folds down. it is the single seat fold down.
this is what the machansim looks like with the cover on. You'll have to get behind this cover with your wire hanger or whatever you use.

this is what it looks like with the cover off the release cable pulls the lever from right to left. you'll have to push the part at the end of the cable to the left

sorry for the blur its cold out! this is how the cover attaches over the mechansim all you'll need to do is get past behind the small tab on the top to the right of the tab.

this is where the mechanism is in relation to the back dash and the baby seat latch thingy so you can get an idea where the mechansim is since it will be hidden by the seat.

be careful of the leather on the back of the seat but don't worry to much becuase it ends right below where you can see and turns into carpet.

i would do this by trying to trip the lever with the hanger or something while having someone pull fwd on the seat a little, and if that doesn't work after awhile maybe without the pulling. a regular wire hanger might bend too easy for this job, maybe something stronger.

i was able to trip this lever with the cover off I went in from the side rather than the top though. you'll have to go in behind the cover, I think this will be harder than I first thought, good luck. i think you will have to dig into the carpet a little to get behind the cover, it'll jam and pull but you should be able to push through without really damaging the carpet.

No...not available on the LS. I actually bought one of the Ford pads that works like a remote and installed it under the lip above the rear license plate. You can't see it. Had to take it to a dealer to be programmed (2001) but it would have saved a big headache here.

Actually, the keypad is standard equipment on the 2003-2006 models, but not the 2000-2002 models. Great feature, and I agree it would be a big help here.

Not available on the pre-'03 LSes. My '04 has the keypad.

my 03 has keypad, but I don't know the code.
Yeah, I have that problem. The Owner's Manual says that it's "marked on the computer module," but I have yet to find it. It would help if they'd define which computer module is being referenced, 'cause I couldn't find it on the PCM or the DDM. Maybe one of these days, I'll twist the dealer's arm, and make him read it from the computer...

In my wife's vic if you remove the driver's door panel it is on the module visable with the panel removed. In my lariat it is under the dash on the module visable w/flashlight above gas pedal.

i locked my keys in any tips in opening the car the cars are on the damn seat and the car is outside

i had to do this all the time, my manual trunk lock was broken and my cars battery used to die a lot and the only way to jump the car was to break into the trunk like that and it sucked

he doesn't need in the trunk, his keys are on the seat, you probable need to bite the bullet and call a lock smith. then get a spare key made.

keypad on the door, possibly the best invention ever!

+1

Cheaper to get a lock smith then break a window, get the factory key pad for the 1st gen, or have spare key/remote available, better yet have all three.

I had a key made at the hardware store that I keep in my wallet just to in case this happens. Key does not need to be a PATS key or whatever it is called. Cost was about $2.00 and it will not start the car.

I use one of those magnetic key-box things hidden under the car. With my luck I'd lock my wallet AND my keys in the car!

Why Ford didn't offer keypad entry on Gen 1 is beyond me...they've had it since the 1980's!!!

It hasn't happened to me (yet), but that's a great idea!

<imitating #1fordfan>Why did you lock your keys in the car? You must be stupid. Next time don't do that and it won't be a problem</imitating #1fordfan>

Sorry for your luck. Try a coat hanger.

lmao....good imitation.

My battery went dead and i could not get the trunk open! Tried everything. Saw these pics and was moderately challenged trying to do this but I eventually got it. Saved me money for a locksmith, thanks for the pics. 01 LS V8 86k miles.

Hindsight

One of the items in the finished gauge panel in my car (See 'Land Speed LS' in the HP section) is a tap that is a direct connection to the battery. A dead battery can be 'jumped' there to be able to open a trunk. With slightly different hardware you can do the same thing with a lighter socket.

You can also access the battery cable junction behind the splash liner inside the passenger front wheel well.

I consciously leave the seat back unlatched so as to be able to get into the trunk from the back seat.
