Help, I Failed On An Hid Conversion

What a horrible day. With a bulb out, I decided to convert so I bought an HID system with digital ballasts and internal firing. Installation went easy and we used a 9005 kit and used a nice clamp to hold the bulb in place. The wiring was a pain,we used t-taps and tapped into the green power on the pass. side and the blue power on the driver's side as well as the grounds. When we fired it up the pass. side came on but not the driver's side. We turned it off, checked the wiring and it seemed okay but when we tried it again we had NO lights. At this point my mechanic friend re-did the wiring as he hated the t-taps and still nothing. So I drove home on icy roads with the brights on.
I tried turning them on and off like troubleshooting said and didn't use the auto feature as I heard that could be a problem. My mechanic thinks the ballasts are bad. I have heard that some kits need a wiring harness to get the proper voltage directly from the battery. Right now I have a daytime only car. Any ideas??????????????

hahhaha, i would say if one worked maybe its a faulty ground, try hooking directly to a battery charger or to the battery and see if they work
 
thats what i was thinking, thats why test first then install, then you know its your screw up instead of wondering if product is defective
 
I'm also really confused how you tapped in for power... when I did mine I unplugged the factory ballasts, cut the wires off them, connect the factory wires to the HID power wires and put everything together like it came from the factory.
 
sounds like you may have tied your new hid's to the stock ballasts. not good if this is what you did. and what does your car have for wiring? your factory headlight wires for your factory low beams dont have blue or green, your hid bulbs have a yellow and grey wire feeding them, and the power from the car to your stock ballasts are black and red, so where do blue and green come into play? you need to unplug the stock ballasts and hook your new aftermarket ballasts to the black and red wires that feed your stock ballast. if i recall the high beam bulbs have a green wire going to them, sounds like you guys tied into the wrong wires all together.

Lol, what a rookie mistake and who in the hell uses t-taps under the hood???? Solder and heat shrink all connections exposed to weather. Or you're setting yourself up for headaches down the road when the t-taps start to rust and corrode.
 
If Mafioso was selling them back when I got mine, I would have bought from him too. He's well respected, a member, gets good writeups on his kits and less expensive than what I paid.
 
T-Taps suck

Solder and heat shrink as was already stated.

Mafiaoso's kit is great and you cant beat the service.
 
Off of THIS forum... i went to

www.cardomain.com/ride/2522432 which details the install along with the adaptor that holds the bulb in place and the blue hot wire on one side , the green hot wire on the other side , and the t-taps. We followed these to the letter.

go to the site for a quick look ,then help me out on how to correct this.

also, give me mafioso's number in case I have to re-order a kit. Remember, the pass. side came on until I turned it off and tried the switch again to get the driver's side on, then, nothing. But this would mean the wiring was OK at least on that side.

if you go back past the plug at the wiring harness, the wires for one side are green(hot) and black(ground) and the other side are blue(hot) and black (ground). I'm not sure why we didn't just cut them off at the ballast and then just connected them but like you say, first time doing this. I'm going to check today and see if the plug into the factory ballast is hooked up. If it is, the splice from the t-tap is just sharing power with the new ballast and old.
You're right though, we should have just chopped at the ballast and soldered and shrink wrapped.

okay, found out some stuff after going back under the car...


All we did was cut on the other side of the connector.. on the side by the ballast which some of you cut,, it's red and black.

On the other side of that connector,depending on the side it's either blue or green for hot and black for ground. This should have made NO difference. We should have had the same voltage and grounding. We just probably should have tested the kit first with a battery or charger before installing.

John, Try what Jamie said if possible. He's had several hundred Marks he parts out/works on. That aside. Go to our search function. Type in Mafioso. The fourth thread down says: Mafioso HID Low Beam Conversion. From there you can IM Mafioso directly. Hope that helps.
 
pulled the plugs and hooked them to a battery charger. One side flickered at 10A, the other side did nothing. bad ballast??

who knows what this means at this point but I got a private message into mafioso!

Just incase you didn't see the thread here it is...

On the last page there are pics of a much better place to mount the ballast than I tried... as far as your kit just sounds like a bum ballast.
 
one side flickered and one did nothing, you either have 2 bad ballasts, or 2 bad bulbs, or all 4 items are bad, did you buy these new or used? i hope not new cuz thats pretty bad to get so much garbage in one kit. i'd be getting my money back and buying a new hid kit!
