Not to be harsh, but I am going to be candid. Since you want to split hairs over verbiage, the word "were", as you used it in your op, may infer to some readers(it did to this one) that your complete stereo was instyalled when the issue occured. If the amp had nothing to do with the possibility of issues, there was really no need to mention that your amp and subs were "hooked" up. That clarification was due much earlier. With that being said, I think the amp was, and is, in the car and you do not want to acknowledge that your "stereo" guy(actually being you) either made a wiring error, or that you have a defective amp.
With that being said, I wish you the best with your issue. Split hairs with another with another member only trying to help.
