Heated Seats

Mine did that a couple times to me, but I figured it out(not saying this is the solution, just my experience). When I start my car in the morning to warm it up, I always hit the heated seats, then when I come back to go to work, they are turned off and the seats arent hot. Then I take off for work, hit the button and they work fine. Also when I leave work and don't have time to warm up my car, I hit the heated seats but leave the heat in the car off until the car warms up, and they stay on and heat up nicely. So I think running heat + heated seats at the same time may cause a conflict, test it out.

Could be the filters under the seats are clogged up and are making the heating elements over heat?

I had a blockage in my seat causing the same issue. Check the tubing running to the seats.

My seatback doesn't cool much if at all. My butt will be icy but the back doesn't get very cold. Is the back supposed to get cold too? Maybe there's a clog.

Anyone havin a prob with theirs. Mine shut off a few min after I put them on.

Are you referring to the front or rear seats?

Also, PLEASE POST YOUR YEAR AND MODEL IF YOU WANT HELP!!!! That goes for all of youse!! :D

Your profile says you have an 05 LS, so don't listen to whatever anybody tells you about heating elements, because you don't have 'em (unless you're having a problem with the heated REAR seats.... even though you WERE NOT CLEAR ABOUT THAT, I'll assume you're having a problem with the fronts).

A common problem with the 03-04 cars was crushed ductwork from prolonged pressure on the front seats. The crushed ductwork prevents warm airflow, the system overheats, and the fail-safe circuitry turns the system off. There is a TSB for this (#04-18-16), but it is supposed to apply only to 03 and 04 cars, not 05. OTOH, it may be the control module -- some folks have reported problems with that recently.

I've had this same issue twice with my passenger front seat on my 03 since I took ownership in the first part of December. Crushed vent tubing you say? Located where?

There is some plastic "corrugated" (looks kinda like vacuum cleaner hose)hosing under the seat that connects to the main heating duct in the floor. This hosing also goes up about a foot in the seat back and has a maybe 3x1 inch opening where the air blows out in the seat back.

If any of the hosing is crushed, you will have little or no air flow. Big feet can sometimes get under the seat and crush the hose. It is fairly easy to see the hose. It could also be just disconnected.

The hose in the seat back is unlikely to be a problem unless the seatback itself is broken off the clips and all the air is escaping to the back seat area.

The seat filters are about 3-4 inch oval shaped plastic screens really. They are easy to remove and clean if needed. I am not sure how they would affect air flow since an eyeball examination and alzheimer memory makes it look like the hoses do all the work and the air from the heater ducts doesn't go thru the filter. Hmmm, maybe it is just an air intake for the cool function??

I have also previously read on this site that sometimes the thermal switch goes bad and causes the seat to turn off too early. Not sure where it is but I vaguely recall it isn't hard to replace.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Under the seat cushion.

Did you have the dealer look at it? They should be applying TSB 04-18-16 to fix this since its is a well-known issue. It involves removing the seat, taking off the leather cover, fixing the tubing, and then reassembling the seat.
