I searched briefly but didnt see anything. I turned on the heated seats without anyoning sitting in the seat and after a couple minutes it turned off. Then when someone was sitting in it and pushed the heated seat button it turned on then turned right off. Whats the deal? Anyone have this problem before?

Yes, it's not uncommon. Search for it for the details. (I am assuming that your LS is a 2003 to 2006.)

The three most common causes are:
1. Crushed air duct in the seat cushion.
2. Disconnected air duct to the seat back.
3. Clogged seat filter.

Less common:
4. Failed seat fan.

I tried the seat a little later and it started working again so can I assume its not broken but either there was to much weight on it or its clogged??? thanks guys for getting back to me so soon.

Yep, same happens to my passenger seat:

Fat friend sits in car = heating doesn't work as you described.

Normal friend sits in car = heating works fine.

Can't be bothered to fix mine.

The element is probably shorted out..

That only applies to the 2000 - 2002. The gen II doesn't use heating elements. Also, on gen I, the elements don't short out. They open up. There's a big difference.

I've never really researched it.. I just know you would need to see if it's the top or bottom and replace it..

This just happened to me this morning on my way home from work. seat would turn on for about 5 seconds then shut off. my ls is an 06, and I'm not really overweight at about 210 lbs.. anyone know a way to fix this? it worked perfect yesterday.. it is very cold out right now (about 24*) would that have anything to do with it?

Mine is an 02 and my driver's side elemwnt went open. I replaced it (only 19$!) The only hard part is the fact that you have to open the hog rings to remove the upholstery.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but do you happen to have a write up on this or where I can find one?

My 06 had this issue. My filter was dirty but after cleaning it the problem still was happening. Mine ended up being the fan motor. It's a cheap plastic thing. I replaced it and now it works again

Just so everyone's clear

The gen II has heated and cooled seats that use an electric cooler module to blow heated or cooled air through the seats.

The gen I has heated only seats that use a wire element to heat the seat covers.

The two systems are as different as can possibly be. Experiences with one will not translate to the other.

I have Gen 1 so hoping that I can find a right up on changing that element, as I think that may be the culprit.

My light is on with the button depressed but no heat on the seat!
