I've never given it much thought until now - but does anyone know how they work? I know there is a blower in each one - I can hear it. But what makes them cool? They have to be connected to the AC somehow. Where do they get heat from? Electric coils or engine coolant?

When you select cool the AC compressor doesn't click on... this is what sparked my interest.

Just wondering.

If there is no compressor but a fan, there is likely a peltier cooling plate in the seat.

These work the same way electric beer coolers work, but ignoring all the technical details of it, you apply voltage to the plate and one side of it gets cold while the other side gets hot. A fan would then blow air off the cool side and through some ducts into the seat.

I only have a gen1 so only have heated seats to check this, but that's what I'd expect.

just a random thought, but i really miss how hot my 1st gen chairs got, and how quick they warmed up, not to mention that they were D E A D S I L I E N T!!!

however, it is almost an even trade off for

A: being able to control how hot they got (because sometimes you really dont need the fury or a thousand suns under your @ss)

B: being able to stay on for the entire ride in the car

and C: actually never having to set them at all and just leave them set to work with the auto climate control!!!!!!!

I love the heated feature and how they work. Living in Texas it's a must to have cooled seats. This past summer was brutal!
