Headlights redone

You know I am not totally sure, I have yellow bulbs, I kept the yellow lenses in case. I am in westchester NY and to be honest I am 47 and dont like cruise at night with the car esp. in places where there is a likely hood of getting pulled over. The few times I have gone out at night in these area's I am almost gauranteed to be pulled over between the tint and the exhaust. So I just keep a low profile.

I am gonna have to check to see if I find any info on that, but my tint and my exhaust would be considered illegal even though that is one of the reasons I listed for not doing HID's that just would add to it.

Hey Nick,

Not to totally hijack post but speaking of illegal (few posts up), is it legal in NY to do the clear corners like you did? I'm gonna do my 00LS lights soon and the clears look awesome, but I don't know if NYC cops will break balls (I'm in Queens).

Any idea?

Looks great BTW.

I just ordered the Phillips HIR 9011's I am going to put in the low beam spot as someone on the board mentioned can do with little mods. Question, since they are 65W do I need to upgrade the harness???

I used Philips HIR2 9012 in the low beam. Works great, no wiring harness change, no seal change. Best mod I have done.

Someone else mentioned the Philips HIR 9011 for hi-beams, I have not tried them.

Get the Philips HIR2 9012 for the low beam...

9006 - 55 watts - 1000 lumens (low beam - stock)
9005 - 65 watts - 1700 lumens (hi beam - stock)

9012 - 55 watts - 1870 lumens (low beam)
9011 - 65 watts - 2350 lumens (hi beam)

well while we're bringing this up, might as well comment on this
I can't speak on laws where you are, but in Texas it's legal if the car was designed for use with them.

this is not true... it doesn't matter if the car was designed for them. it matter what actual headlight you have, putting a HID bulb in a non HID headlight is not DOT approved. therefore it is not legal.

The cars designed for use shouldn't blind you... Assuming you don't use an over powering 55W kit.

the reflector in the HID headlight is different from the reflector in the non HID headlight. putting a HID bulb in a non HID headlight will cause some amount of extra glare, this is why the reflector in an HID headlight is different.

Yep, just did my headlights, good knowledge can be 'bookmarked' for reference to newcomers.

^^^ 100% correct. The Xenon 2nd Gen lamps have more of a diamond cut in comparison to the horizontal cut reflectors in the halogen lamps.
