I have a question even if i go buy new headlight for my gen 1 will the new lights start to fog and start yellowing in 5 6 years or not?

Probably. It will probablly help to keep the auto headlights off, but it'll probably happen again sometime down the road.

+2 the biggest prob with the gen lights is the low beam bulb is normally a high beam bulb, so it burns hotter causing the reflective film at the back of the assy to burn off, as for the yellowing, yeah its a good chance

Keep them waxed, it'll help keep the lens clear. Much of the discoloration has to due with the sun beating on them.

Contact Jame Vogt at cntgtiticn@msn.com he's got a great solution for about $100 per light. Here is the contact for a guy I know who can refurbish the inside of the Gen I headlights. He also claims when he's done the outside will not tarnish. He's got a Patten Pending.

I think you can get halogens cheaper than 700. I think they are more like 500 for both sides. I could be wrong though.

phantom headlights

I just had my alternator replaced today, and now my headlights are phantomlike.....they go out and come back as they please, same thing with the highbeams, i had auto turned on, but it does the same thing when the auto is off, any ideas?

check my thread in max's forum i think he said new halogens were 200 a side for gen 1

Today's price is 210.82 for one side and 200.77 for the other. Maybe Oct 1st new price tape will change that????

As for the HIR's, Yes they are brighter but they also burn hotter. Keep the auto light feature OFF!!!

I keep reading in the archives that people used to remove some metal piece from the gen 1 headlight and it made it much brighter, does anybody know what i'm talking about? and is it hard to get out?

I think i'm gonna do the driving lights behind the grill mainly because I like the way it look's anybody know of some cheap ones that work good? i know to look for 55w with glass lens

I just got some from auto zone, dint help the prob much but looked cool at night and I had it riged up to come on with the auto lights.

Unfortuntlly that car is smashed and sitting in my back yard, but my new mark is going to be painted the same way but iI will leave the star up front and still shave the other logo's.

I just replaced both of my headlights and went to an aftermarket HID kit. I got my headlights off of e-bay, bought both for under $150. The HID kit was almost a direct replacement. The only thing you have to do is check to make sure the polarity is correct. They run about $275.00to $350.00.
