Ok so like everybody else with a mark I was tired of the hazed headlights but was not willing to pay the astronomic price to replace them. I decided I had nothing to loose so I got a high speed buffer out and some fast cut compound. I buffed for about 1/2 hour on each side and it took about 70% of the haze out. You cant even tell they are hazy till you get up on top of them. This is a 97 LSC so I do not know what to tell you 1st gen. guys but it is a whole lot better than it was on my car and cost nothing but a little time.

Plastic Sucks -- They All Haze Over
I Have An 85 Merkur Xr4ti And 91 Mark 7
And The Only Way I Have Been Able To Get Them Cleared Up
Is First Sand With 1500 Grit Sandpaper / Water ( Available At Most Hardware Stores ) -then Buff With Dupont Polishing
Compound ( Not Rubbing Compound ) Then
Follow Up That With Dupont #7 Polish Then Final With
Mcquires Plastic Polish ---
Small Aircraft Have Lexan Windshields
And Most Airport Shops Have A Scratch Removal Kit Called
" Micromesh " -- This Kit Has Staged Crocus Cloth Up To 5600 Grit
With Polishes Etc -- Works Great But Is Expensive
Though Its Only A Fraction Of The Housing Replacement Cost &
Junkyard Search Will Not Yield Any Headlight Housings Either
Good Luck --- Ford Needs Your $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

You're on the right track Cobra8. You have to start out with a wool pad and cut compound to generate enough heat to "flame polish" the surface. That gets you 80%. Then you need to run a foam pad and finishing compound to complete the process. I plan on offering the members here a "kit" that includes the proper pads and compounds. These will work with all Ford lenses, not just the Marks. Stay tuned.

Last time I checked the micromesh kit was around $100 --
used to work local airport in Cincinnati now do Navy aircraft in Pensacola
so it would be hard to scam some from work ---
Housings are getting hard to come by so cleaning is the next best thing
