Hey guys I need some advise. My friends gen2 mark blew the spark plug out of the head we heli coiled it the first time lasted 3 years now it blew again this time not fixable. Good news is I have a 95 engine sitting in a junk car in the back yard. so I have a head. My first question is can you pull the head off with the engine in the car? ( Drivers side ) I blew a disk in my back so I really dont want to have to pull the engine right now If I can get around it. Im in flagstaff and its already cold up here lol. Ive already done the engine in my 93 so I capable I am a mechanic knowing the royal pain that it is and my physical situation. Thanks guys

It can be done but you'll most likely have to undo the brake lines, remove the master cylinder, stand the chance of messing up the timing and as far as I know, 95 heads don't have IMRC plates where the 96 and up do. So... I don't think the 95 head is even going to work in the Gen 2 period.

It would be best to find a low mileage engine and just replace the entire thing. I might stand corrected on something up above or more might be added saying it can't be done but I really don't think the 95 head will work in the Gen 2 but even if it will, you'll slip even more disks in your back trying to do it, especially with the engine still in. Drivers side is a lot harder than the pass side and the pass side ain't easy.

Yes it can be done... but I would only use a 96+ head on a gen 2, different valve springs and small casting differences...

Are you in Flagstaff AZ?

If so are you sure it gets cold there?

Like said above it can be done in the car. Its a royal PIA. The heads aren't light and the driver side has the manifold and cat all attached, even heavier. I'm not a big guy but its tricky leaning over the fender replacing the head with all the bolts tighed up and working the cat back down.

I would use the correct year head. I think the 98 cams have larger cam bolts that hold the gears. Not sure if that makes any difference. There are some small changes.

I'd just drop the whole motor out the bottom and replace it..
it's a less than 4 hour job to R&R

your gonna spend WAY more time than that trying to get the head off..and get the replacement back on.. not to mention the whole cam timing scenario which wont be a "walk in the park" for a first time mod motor rebuilder.

Just drop another one in....easiest, cheapest fix.

lol...I wonder if Brandon was really naked down here in Texas when he was with Tommy???

Lol... funny you should say that...

I was in Dallas all day pulling parts out of the junkyard before driving down to Houston... got to his house and needed to shower. Problem, the light in Tommy's bathroom was out... so I had to shower at his place with the bathroom door wide open lol....

ok can you drop the engine out of the bottom with out a lift I only have jacks? and will a 95 motor work minus the intake and etc.
