Has anyone done this, or thought of doing this?

Well, since I have too much time on my hands, and want to do something semi-original with my Mark, I am thinking about pulling the auto transmision, and dropping in a trany and gear box with shifter from a '96 Cobra. Since the engine is the same, I'd think it wouldn't be much trouble making it all work, assuming there was room for it all under the car.

Anyone think this is even possible, or seen someone do it?

End game, I want to put in a full cobra tranmission system, replace the stock seats with some black leather cobra seats, paint the whole thing black, and find someone who can do a convertable top fabrication on it. Also, I want to look into stealthing the door handles and all the lights.

Is it just me or does that sound sexy as hell?

It has been done.I have only seen one and it looked like to much work for me plus these cars are heavy and i like to drink my coffee and smoke while racing if i recall it was a blue gen 1 i saw it on. He had to relocate the shifter back and weld in a bigger box and make his own linkage. He had pics up somewhere showing the transformation

What about the gear vendors unit they have out now i think you can get a six speed automatic and have some really low rear gears in back. Look out 200 plus mph if your wheels bearing don't melt and if you can control it, highly don't think so

me and my old man a plan on putting a t56 in my mark this x-mas i will tell you all how it goes!

P.S i dont drink coffee so that should not be a problem :)

Whatever did happen to 94m5? He sold his awesome 95 and never came back again, didn't he have 3 other marks?

he had 2 other marks besides the 95, he also had a 98 lsc, and he/his dad have the 94 5 speed. he sold the 98 and bought a pick-up, then he sold the 95 and moved to CO and last i knew he moved again (still in CO) and didnt have internet at the new house, but that was a while ago :(

I have seen several mid/late 80s and early 90s T-Bird and Cougar Convertible conversions, even a Mark VII - never a VIII. Most were done I think by a company called American Conversions in CA. They were pretty well done but price was 100% over sticker, so they are not cheap to do, at least so they not flex or break apart.
