Not real happy with the light output of some cheap 35w 6500k 9006 HIDs used to replace the OEM that I had a bulb go out.

There was a 2000 Cougar next to the 98 Mark VIII, so while there, dissected one of the Cougars headlights. 1999-2000 had high and low projectors (01-02 had single).

I actually was contemplating HID low projector and Halogen high beam. Either a reasonably priced aftermarket, or one of the commonly used factory setups.

I don't think they would fit real well.

looking at the last photo, it appears you would have enough room for the halogen high beam projector. however, there might not be enough for the hid lows. what hid kit will you be using?

I am subscribing to your project as I am going to begin a similar projector rnr of my own.
and yes... we want to see photos of your project as you go along. gL.

For a 97/98 the best option would be a real HID retrofit. It looks like the one I have on my car would work in that housing too. Bi-xenon will do high and low beam 100x better than stock ever could. The threaded base goes where the bulb used to go, so you can still aim via the stock method. Under $300 for everything needed from TheRetrofitSource.com
