40k on the clock and misfiring. i have now ordered ignition coils and will be replacing all of the spark plugs this weekend. it only misfires when i take slight left turns. POP POP POP. it will be in the drive way until my parts come in. any advice on the v6? I read that I need to remove the intake manifold before replacing anything. i've printed out the helpful tech guides from the tech section on replacing the coils and spark plugs and searched what others have said about bad coils. my CEL has not yet come on, so autozone wouldnt be able to pull any codes to see where the issue is. correct?

While you're at it, check the PCV vacuum hose and replace it if there's any cracks. That'll cause the car to act funky as well. I think I posted a thread about it. I'll see if I can find it and post it.

just did mine this weekend

what you will need.
valve cover gaskets, coils, plugs.
upper manifold gasket, lower manifold gasket, PCV valve and rubber connector hose "L" shaped that fits on the end of the PCV valve. Plus maybe the PCV hose that extends from the rear of the engine to the front of the thottle body.

Don't remove the throttle accelerator cable, just remove the two bolts and pull off the throttle itself, remove the two bolt holding the throttle cables on top of the manifold. set it aside and clean it out with gumout.
remove all the connectors on the back of the upper manifold, simple.
remove the two upper manifold support bolts and the large nut on the gizmo near the front of the throttle body, it connects the long steel pipe. Remove hoses, etc, from throttle body and throttle body bolts over the lower intake manifold. its real easy, just take your time and save the nuts and bolts in the same order as removed.

pull off upper manifold, remove, replace valve cover gaskets, plugs and coils.

now for the PCV valve, its pretty simple, the lower manifold is plastic and is really the fuel rail. remove the two connectors from the rear of the fuel rail.
remove the 4 bolts holding the unit, remove the bolt holding the chrome fuel line in front of the engine. now you can lift the lower manifold/fuel rail out of the way but not disconnect it. the pcv valve is located below it. cut the old rubber hose off, untwist the PCV, replace. Soap up the rubber hose with soap and water, its easier to install, put it all back together.

any questions just give me a holler.

NYC, Those links are dead :(
You didnt save them by chance did you? ...nevermind i found the links on the jag forum

not sure about gen2

what year do you have? I looked at the jag photos above and it's very similar, the pcv is identical. The upper manifold is a little different. but in the same spot. look for ways to save time by moving things out of the way instead of unscrewing everything like the manual says to do. it's time consuming! set aside many hours, but not difficult.

ok

the back plugs nearest the firewall are the ones where oil leaks into. Replace the valve cover gaskets if oil is found. Only 40k? and making trouble? I did not replace my coils or plugs until 109k first time. Of course over the last 8 years I have dumped tons of cash into this car keeping it running.

ok... the repairs on the v6 looked way to complicated since I had to remove the entire intake manifold so i took it the shop. the shop is telling me that the ignition sensors behind the intake manifold are bad. he said it is not the coils, but it is misfiring due to bad ignition sensors. yet i could see where oil was dripping so i know that it is most likely the coils. has anyone ever heard of these sensors malfunctioning due to a leak before? i think im going to take my car elsewhere.

Are you covered under the extended warranty for coils? I forget what years that included. 2003-2004?

The years are 2003 to 2005. However, it is for V8's only, so no coverage for him.
