ok i was drivin home the other night and my dam check engine light came on. But the car runs perrrfect, perrs like a kitten. I dont understand why it came on can anybody tell me what could be wrong. Also there is a wierd rattling nosie when i kick it into the passing gear, does anybody know what that might be

:Bang :soapbox: :feedback

thanks for ur help

went to pep boys and got it hooked up to a computer and it said it was somthing about bank 1 lean and bank 2 lean what the hell does that mean? by the way the car has 116K on it so it is proablly ready for some things to go wrong

i dont have any idea what that means. good luck with that ;)

It goes on and on like this

... or maybe it'll just go away in a few days. Sometimes a fresh tank of high octane will do the trick. Mine's done that upon occasion for the last two years. The longest it's been on is a week.

That rattle upon acceleration isn't ping is it? If so, then both the light and the rattle could be fuel related.

(Don't take my word for it though. I don't know sh*t about cars!) :Beer

i dont think it is gas but it could be, i will try that. and no i dont have the code, but i will see if i can get it. thanks for all the suggestions, also i heard that the pinging was maybe from the mass air flow censor. i dont think its the lifters peckin because it only does it when i kick it into passing gear, no time else. aslo i hate to start another question, but why waste the space. i have noticed that when i go to kick the car into passing gear it hesitates, i was told it could be the egr paths in the maifold. but i really doubt that since the manifold is one of those stupid ass plastic ones. does anybody know what could be causein that or should i jus get rid of the dam thing i really dont wont to do that so please help :Bang :bash:

thank u

what the :q:q:q:q is that? "I said a bad word? what does it do it automatically? i didnt do that.

:invasion:
:q:q:q:q :q:q:q:q :q:q:q:q :q:q:q:q :q:q:q:q

Try cleaning your mass air sensor, unplug your battery to reset the computer. My friend had a rattling noise that turned out to be the cataylic converter. Maybe your O2 sensors are giving funky readings resulting in a lean condition.

I'm not sure what pep boys offers but if you go to a checker/shuck's or Kragen they set you up with a code reader so you can scan your car in their lot (they ask for your license) and they download the scanned info and print you out a copy for FREE. That way you have the codes and what they mean in writing and it's much easier to get help as the other guy (like me) knows what it is that the computer is seeing.
What you mentioned is lean bank one and two. All that means is that both sides, left and right, bank one and two of your engine are running lean according to the computer as it reads your exhaust at the o2 sensors. This could also be part of your acceleration hesitation as it takes a little longer for the computer to widen the dwell or "on time" of the injectors to richen up the mixture when you open up the throttle plate with your foot.
You may need to go a little further and end up getting a mechanic with a scan tool that reads live data from the sensors to give you an accurate diagnosis but if you can get the codes you may be able to get some accurate info here.
The other thing to know is if you end up with multiple trouble codes start with the lower numbers first. It's one of the few things the engineers did that's helpful. The codes are sort of arranged from the lower numbers to the higher numbers by what can cause a secondary, third or ..... code. Meaning if you have a bad injector that's running too rich or too lean you will also have an O2 code becuse it's "seeing" the injector problem. You don't go in and pull the injector and the two O2"s, you pull the injector after determining it is the problem, reset the check engine/service engine soon light and see if it does in fact reset a code for the O2's.
Hopefully I'm making some sense to you.

if you take it to an aamco, they check it for free and give you an estimate of what it will cost.... i dont know if theres any in your area though... im going there friday.

dude i have the exact same thing...but i know what mine is...its a damn cat!!! but theres 2 on each side, so i have to find out which one iot is...good luck with yours...

hey man...to be sure, cuz yours could be something differant or not...but just spend the 75 bucks to have "lincoln" look at it, and know whats wrong with it for sure!!!

Codes read at Aamco?

Does Aamco read the engine codes and give you a repair quote? I thought they worked mainly on transmissions and didn't get into engine repair ???

yeah, i taked to a guy over there and he said he'll give me a free quote. just call em.

Finding the bad "cat"

On the bad cat issue. The best (easiest) way to tell which one is bad besides shaking it once it's out is to use a thermometer to check it's temp. The bad one will be much cooler then the one on the other side. It's best to use a non-contact thermometer as you don't have to get to close but they make a neat thermometer with an extended reach just for testing cat's and keeping your hands safely away from the heat. They can reach upwards of 1200 degrees at times.

hey, 1995Towncar, you got new headlights?

Car only has 68k Miles.

Right now im doing a heater core..... If you know what that involves then you know how i feel, if not, you dont want it to happen to you.

The heater core is a $25 part. And its easy to install, minus the dashboard, wires, and everything else on the car!!

Im not sure if :L
