grille to intake tube.

I did the exact same thing no screen 20,000 miles and a year and a half later and I haven't had an issue yet. It gives a small but noticeable boost on the highway.

That said after reading this I'm convinced I'm putting a screen on this weekend couldn't hurt
 
If you're worried about how the screen will look behind the grille, why not cut the tubing in half about halfway up, put the screen in the middle, and zip tie it back together. That way you won't see it and it'll be doing its purpose.

alright but if i did that should i use metal mesh? id have to use real fine mesh for that and have it be plaible so i can cut and bend it to meet 4 inch tubing, anything lighter such as screen door material will shred. i actually did a lot of driving north jersey to atlantic city then back around 250 miles, some in pouring rain and it performed well and my gas mileage went up .3 mi
