Lincoln LS V8 2003

I could go on and on about whats happened with this car since I got her 2/22/16,,,,,so in short I do a quick timeline of events, remedies, and my latest defeat !\

purchased /////engine vibrates and hesitates,,plus a little bumpy

autozone~ a little oil and coil 5 trouble

day 2 #5 & 7

day 3 buy coils and replace rear arm control bearings

that night on my way to work ~~~ crazy sputtering , check into autozone....coils 1,3,5,7....employee says its crank ignition sensor....leave autozone happy, thankful, and content~ 2 blocks later ~~~ all power failed, go look for a jump and the car is fine

make it 40 miles twice ,and disconnect the battery to clear computer.. except the 2nd time , car shifts down,,,idles up and growls lower and I'm siiting in the car on the side of the highway wishing I was at work and not broke down an hour from home

cop,277$ tow bill and new citation>>>> tow truck rips through Parking Break as he pulls away with the car at a 45 degree angle ~~~owners manual says is no no

get car outta hock ~~~ told them they prolly messed her up , and the car starts!!! but goes no where,,,,,

that night I crawl under her and look for fuel line issues..non to be found an hour away

next day father rents a 70$ trailor , I ask for a jump, no go,, so wench her on

replace spark plugs, test coils for current, polish spark plug areas....do a complete fuse, relay, & diode check,,,clear all connection...sand,brush,,etc anywhere the ground and current reach, change fuel pump, then starter

she cranked and started for the first time tonight and I could hear rattling under the car<hope its just catalytic converter,,,,I FEAR ITS THE DRIVETRAIN FROM THE TOW Truck / extortionist

also the car starts too idle down and stop once I press the gas for a little encouragement,, I try to restart and nothing

I'm about 2500$ into this thing, and only drove her a few days,,,,,,, 1750 at initial signing,,,bought as is,,,plus I'm pawning tools for the replacement parts,,,,,This Car was my blessing, dream car,, but unfortunately for my father and I , another symbol representing my terrible luck as of late,,,,and I dont know what else to do!!! I havent changed the pcm, but I have rest the computer 10 times 5 ways... please take time and help us... I'm missing work and about everything else to boot,,,this car was my ticket back into life

Your problems started with a misfire that you believe is cop #5. Did you replace all of the cops with OEM Motorcraft? If not, that'd be where to start.

Sounds Like A Great Suggestion ~~~~ If you have 8 laying around,,,,let me know //// I'll give you my address....and the car starting but stalling in 1 minute...... not only a coil or two issue.... I checked for current ,,it was fine ,, havent made a coil tester , but I will unless this become my Coffin ! I still owe what I got in it..... thanks for the info ~~~ let me know about those coils... I'd sure like to put that issue aside...

Man, sucks to hear your issues.

I ran to the some of the same issues when I bought this car.

IF I have any advice other than what the "experts" here have to say, I'll glad give it.

I'm currently at the dealer now..

Change all your COP's and all your plugs first the re-diagnose. As far as your tow, did they pull it from the front? If so...damage is done to the transmission and possibly the parking brake if it was on. Also, testing your COP's for current does not tell you if they are good or bad. They need to be stress tested and the cost of that approaches the cost of new COP's.

On another note....'too' means also or in addition, 'to' means in the direction of or the thing that is affected. You used the wrong one atleast twice, once in the title of your thread. I know, English is a stupid language....

You can't test coils that way!. The only way is to scope them while they are being stress tested. This costs more than just replacing the coils. You must use Motorcraft, and you must now replace all the spark plugs (yes again). Be sure to set the gaps to 1.0 mm. If you reject this experience based advice, then I don't see how we can help you.

I can tell you that the coils on my v6 messed up my throttle and put me in failsafe mode. Which could explain the dying after a short time. It is NOT a pleasant mode.LOL!
Now without these experienced guys telling me about those coils,Ida been throwing money away. Take their advice, especially JoeGr's. don-ohio (:^)

while we are on the subject of coils, my recent purchase showed that they did the replace but only did 3 of the 8 coils. did replace all the other stuff with it, like spark plugs, gaskets, temp sensor. so likely done right, but I am curious what about the other 5? will they go out soon (just turned 100k work done 90k) or only when leaked on and such?

WELL ~~~ I called them today ! The GM says he will do an investigation..... He sounds honest and the procedures he explained sound thorough enough that I should ?!!! get the relief I need on that end .. Thank you !!!! Also , as far as you directing my attention too the proper usage of my application of 2's , ~ ; ) , I will do my best to break this long standing glitch with my written communication skills.

See? The world is so predominantly Front Wheel Drive now, some of them don't know how to tow a car any more. Makes me mad. Tear up a good rear wheel drive............Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! don-ohio

That Wicked, he sneaks in just the right times to promote his for sale items. LOL

Soul, you be sure to ship this guy his brand new OEM Motorcraft coils now, you hear!

You got a ticket for being broken down?

I've been afraid of accidentally parking my LS in a tow zone after doing it with my Taurus (parked 5 hours before the streetsweeper came). They scooped it up with a two-wheel lift kind of truck and drove it 3 miles away. I don't know how I'd be if it was my LS... would they have bothered to at least tow it face down/as up? Would they even know it's RWD?
