Quite honestly this is the first new deck I have bought in years because I have had 2 systems stolen in the past, but it was on clearance and I couldn't resist.

It is a Pioneer AVIC-U310BT:

It is nothing fancy but it does have built in GPS, bluetooth, HD receiver etc. and a detachable face. I figure the two things that make a Mark VIII look more modern are good rims and a good audio setup, so I am halfway there. With the gears and converter being done soon this is just the icing on the cake. Now all I need is some good speakers and maybe a decent amp and this upcoming summer will be set.

I am guessing I will have to trim a little. Laser?

Are you going to do the install yourself? You're going to have to cut a little bit of the radio opening on the top for it to fit. I have an F700BT, and the best to place to put the mic is to clip it to the headliner just above the visor, and run the wire down the a-pillar. Just like this.

You can put the GPS antenna anywhere. In the middle or on the side. I put mine in the middle and snaked the wire towards the drivers side and under.

Here's mine. I also suggest you buy the ipod cable. These radios have very good interfaces.

I want a pioneer deck so bad. but in my neighborhood i need something with a removable face. jvc makes the only double din with a removable face, but i dont like that brand too much...

Damnit GMAN, why didnt you take the dash cover from my 97? I see the big ass crack in yours. :( Ill take it off and put it in my shed. If I go back down or you come up around here again you can have it for free buddy.

OP, if you trim a mm on the bottom and a mm on the top of the inner dash opening then the deck will sit perfectly center in the stock opening. It should have a black bezel trim piece too to fill in the gaps on the side. What you do is take that plastic piece and trim it with a good box razor untill its the exact size of the opening on the wood bezel.
For mounting you need to get some stereo straps (the stereo should have one and any stereo shop will have more) and cut the strap in half then bend it to an "L" shape with only a 3/4-1" length after the bend. Bolt it to the side of the deck and then drill holes for the mount..... Ill go take some pics so you can see what I am talking about tomorrow.

what do you use to cut the interior panel to fit the double din radio.

Thanks Bill, I may come up in one of these coming weekends. I'll let you know.

I just got a cutting wheel and dremeled a line across the top. You only need a 1/2". Remember, there is no special kit, so you're going to have to fab a bracket to mount on the side of the radio and which will need to be screwed into the side.

Another option is a "false" face. I took the face off the original head unit from the car and fashioned it into a crude cover to go over the top of my touchscreen.

What I do is take a box razor blade and shave the opening. That way I can make the size just perfect. Plus with a fresh blade you can do it faster then taking out the dremil, plugging it in, attach the bit, dremel out the opening, remove the bit, put the dremel away. With a razor I can shave the opening in under 3 minutes.

The one I just bought has a removable face.

Thats a great idea. I think ill buy a junk radio and try that out so that i can have my non hacked up stock for a back up.
