i realize i'm only providing a limited amount of info but i thought i'd see what more knowledgeable members had to say. i found a 97 mark 8 for sale (asking $1650). seller didn't post or email me any pictures. 106k on car but apparently only 66k on engine. owner says it runs well but "needs minor work "...

after emailing him about this minor work, he tells me, "They don't carry them at the dealer, but I called a salvage yard and they said they have some.Didn't give me a price. It's called a ,"intake manifold something senser" IMRS It regulates the air flow for the air mixture and tells the computer."

after reading a few threads, i'm assuming he means imrc and not imrs, correct? odd for this to have gone bad on an engine with only 66k?

If the car is in great condition (milage means nothing at that age) then its a good deal.

But plan on putting a couple $k into it. if you lucky you will not, but the air-ride may need work. The trans WILL need work and there will be a few other things.

But, assuming good condition, I would go for it myself.

Gen II's are generally going to need work, but don't let that deter you from a great car. I paid $2000 for mine and have replaced the blend door, steering column and clock spring along with some other things. I only have a few hundred in it for parts with my labor and have mostly enjoyed working on it.

I would pass. apparently this car has had the dog snot run out of it.

Being that I already have a Gen 2, I would probably pick it up myself, but it all depends on how much you are willing to work on the car. As it was said, you will probably have to put a couple $k into it to make it worth your while, but I love working on cars even though I get frustrated and vent here LOL

forgot to mention, the suspension has been converted to springs. thanks for the input so far.

not if they bolted the 106K intake back on a 66K long block
or..the oh so common imrc controller had died

either way if that is ALL that is wrong w/the car it definatly worth 1600!

And the IMRCs being stuck can be a sign of not being abused, in other words keeping the engine under 3k RPM. If they are opened and used a lot they seem to stay cleaner. At least logic would say so.

Springs? Not a fan, but you just saved a ton of money. Now all you have is trans and minor engine work. it comes down to condition like I said before.

To me buying something like that just means that your buying somebody else's problems. Who know how and why the engine was replaced and what milage is on the "new" one. I payed 1900.00 for mine with 72,000 miles on it and the only thing that was wrong with it was the drivers side air strut was not inflated. For the price you will buy that one for and the cost you will spend repairing it you can buy a nicer one right off the bat.

ive got a deal on a 93 with 28xxx miles on it $1,200, going to look at it today, it will be a parts car a fyi, if the interior look like 28xxx im getting it saw pic of the motor it look real clean....

haha, the guy selling the car writes back to me and says " The light on the dash is out(gone).I think the IMFR sensor fixed itself,"

Dude, talk him down to $1000. That way if you buy it and it ends up with a MAJOR problem, you can double your money parting it out. You neglected to mention this is the very rare dark blue. Someone on here would pay $1500 for it with a blown engine. LOL

dark blue? no, it's black. i've been thinking about getting it to part it out but i dont really have the driveway space for it right now.

My bad. Must be a different one I saw on there with a motor swap. :) You would definitely be able to pick it up for $1000ish, give it a good cleaning, fix the idle issue, and start it on ebay for $2000. Other than CE's, black second gen's are the most sought after.
