THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME! I'm gonna fork out $69 for each of my cars for all day track racing. I've got my 2001 Lincoln LSV8 (shown below, complete with 40 series custom flowmaster exhaust, XCal II, custom cold air ram intake) and my '89 Camaro with a built 350 and a few other minor mods - hope to run high 13s.

My friend will have his video camera so I will for sure have some runs to show you guys but more importantly...

I'm finally going to test the XCal II to see the differences in my 1/4 mile times.

I don't know how many races I will get in, but I hope to do at least one with each tune, two or three stock and even two with the max tune in order to get some solid numbers.

I'm going on Saturday, the 19th. Hopefully I'll have videos up by Sunday eve. I'll post a link once I get it.

Good luck. I really want to know your thoughts on the Xcal. I want to get one, but it's hard to justify spending that much money on a "maybe". :headbang:

$69 for each one? Out here it is $17 for all night, I can easily get 6 or 7 runs in before I get tired and leave, most people will get a lot more than that.

Anyways, have fun and remember to post some times.

Why dont you also do some runs with the stock intake vs. cold air intake. That'll settle some "maybe's"

Traction and shifting accuracy are going to play a part in how well he'll be able to compare. I would just run as many times as needed to get a good consistent time with out the tune, then load the best one and see how much you can improve it. I guess you could start with the stock intake, then put it on, then add the tune. I don't need to see that, just curious what the Xcal can do.

Actually I gutted the stock intake. I no longer have the filter or box. All I have is my cone filter and tubing for a ram-air from lower grill. Too difficult to take out the ram-air and nothing to replace the cone filter w/ so I'll probably only be doing the before/afters w/ the XCal. The track is open from 9:30am to 3:30pm...I thought $69 seemed like a lot too but oh well. This track is 90 min away in WI, the next closest is 5 hrs away in IA!

???WI, where

Track is in Rock Falls a few miles south of Eau Claire.

I was only able to do two runs in the LS before an antifreeze leak got me kicked off the track for the day. Here is my best timeslip.

R/T ... .347
60 ... 2.390
330 ... 6.640
1/8 ... 10.034
MPH ... 73.02
1000 ... 12.921
1/4 ... 15.349
MPH ... 92.85

The guy next to me ran a 11.295 at 84.87 MPH! (I can't explain the MPH difference). Do you have any idea how funny this looked when I came crossing the finish line 4 secs later?!

That was WITH the XCal II running on Perf +4 (the max tune), custom cat-back exhaust and ram-air intake w/ cone filter no heat shield and minor weight reductions 99 octane gas with stock tires using the autosick shifting at the redline (ran it in third til I hit the traps) in about 75-80 degree weather.

My first run was a 15.5 or some BS.......Dissapointing...... IMO.

I will have a video of the run plus a video of my exhaust. Personally I think its the loudest LS exhaust I have ever seen, even louder than the LS w/ no cats or whatever that video was....

With more runs, a tune-up and a cooler day I'm sure I coulda gotten a 14.9 out of her. Then again, the whole thing just felt dissapointing.

This was the day I decided for sure that LS was going for an M3!

Yeah, not quite as funny as when they lined me up against a 10 second car. I swear he was half way down the track before I hit the gas.

It happens to everybody. I've been beaten by all kinds of stuff.

If the 60' can be improved to low 2.2s, that will get you close to 14.99.
Do you shift at red line or before so it shifts at red line? Over-revving it does help times.

If you feel dissapointed it should be in your driving technique which is fine, i mean your not a pro right? Practice will get it down most likely. But the times you got are pretty much what that LS is gonna get. Maybe on your best day with all variable perfect it'll be a few tenths better, but you did about what the car is capable of. Its not a race car and they are not "fast". I am glad though that you got a chance to do some runs, lets the reality set in about the true gains with the mods. They are fun to drive and have some power but fast they are not. We have some tracks here in Orlando that i'd be interested in making some runs, more so to test my driving skills vs. the cars ability. Keep it up.

I meant over-revving DOESN'T help times, just noticed i made that mistake.

Is your car tuned to run on 99 octane? If not, it'll do absolutely nothing for you except make the weight of the car with you in it lighter since you forked over more dough than you shoulda.

Cooler weather would defintiely help. So would a higher stall converter (do they make any for the LS?) and some sticky tires. If you were to get that short time down to a 2.0, you're looking at 8 tenths off your current time (rule of thumb is .1 off the 60' is worth .2 on the ET).

Good luck!

His 60' should be improved with a little practice, that'll improve the time overall.

No TC available. 2.2s are common as the car sticks pretty decent. A Gen1 LS has not ran better than 14.7 to the best of my knowledge N/A.

Hey... just take the time to learn the car... and how it peformes on the track. Before you junk it for another car.

I made a stock 99 GT run a 13.88 (once), my avg ET was anywhere from 14.0-14.5 on any given day. I was just got good with launching and knew how that car reacted.

Most people at the track with the same car and quite a few at the time where running 14.7 and could not do any better.

Evertime you change something you have sorta relearn how the reacts, to get the most out of it.

I would say run take it to the track few more time before you past judgement... and before you say I know it just a LINCOLN LS. But at 92MPH I am thinking you launch better you might get a better time.

My 2 cents

My SHO ....

3490lb V8 w/140K mile on the clock at the time ran 15.4 at 89 MPH.

I had under quarter tank of fuel on too. It was dusk and in at KCIR in MO. Dew point was high also.

Stock numbers on the SHO are 235HP, I have a exhaust and home built cool air intake.... and I am front wheel drive.. I am sure my car only is only putting 185 to the ground.

StinkinLinkin01... I am sure that your car can run better... like I said it will take you time to get it there.

hey i can i find out about any tracks in my area i live in NYC me and my friends would like to go down and have some fun racing a little.

Thanks for kind words guys.

I've been street racing my car for almost 2 years. Of couse I'm no "pro"...but I'm pretty confident with the way I handle her. Sticky tires wouldn't do anything for me, spinning isn't an issue. the tune calls for 93 octane or higher...the actual octane level was probably around 94-95 with the octane booster...no big deal.

The only thing I could have done to improve my time would have been a better r/t = better 0-60, cooler day and remove the spare tire and 10 gallons of gas (I ran a 3/4 tank thinking I would've burned more gas on the way to the track that morning). At best I think I coulda gotten a 14.8 - 14.9

I know its just a LINCOLN LS. Which is why I bought an '89 Camaro to feed my need for speed. I just hate spending $1500 for performanc upgrades for basically nothing. I know adding things to your car is fun and all, but it really helps when it pays off, and sucks when it doesnt....

In all honesty. I still love this car. My transmission just went out. But I still love it. I've been stuck with my camaro as the daily driver and yeah its fun rumblin' around everywhere but man do I miss that "floating" ride of the LS and the plush leather seats and that cool wood grain wheel. :leghumper :leghumper

:D

Street racing and Drag strip... at two different areas... case and point Mustang can suck on the street but dominate at the track.

That much fuel on... my god.... try with 1/4 tank and no spare tire... I bet you will see improvement.

Good luck with your tranny.
