Found this on my trunk the other day.

Seems like rust is a pretty common issue around these rubber gaskets that hold our chrome on. I saw several LS' with the paint bubbling in this area when I was shopping for this car.

My boss has a 2000 TownCar that was also rusting around the rubber gasketed areas about 6-7 years after he got it. My '03 LS didn't have any rust or bubbling at all.

Luckily, it's a small area. It is also bubbling on the underside of the trunk tho.

I have some minor bubbling in the same spot. Not as bad yet though fortunately. Good to know this is a common issue, wasn't aware of that

I agree Ohio winters suck  Luckily for me I'm a little south of you (Portage) and I can leave my car parked under cover and take the bus if needed

I have the same thing on mine. shop quoted me 325 to refinish the whole trunk.

+1. That's why I debadged mine and touched it up.

Not so sure about that counter act stuff but I have used similar marine products that work great, turns rust black and back into metal I will post the brand later

as far as the bubbling/Rust I am thinking there is a drain hole that is getting plugged?

I know a good body shop, I still expect this to cost $200-300 to fix. Looked around the car and didn't see any other spots.

I've looked at about 3 dozen LS' in the past few years of searching for cars, and I noticed this issue on several of them. I looked at two cars that are the color of what I've got, and they were both doing it.

Mine's doing the same thing only on the passenger side of the rear surround. Have one spot on the front edge of hood and a couple spots on the bottom side of the hood, knowing that the hood is aluminum, it doesn't bother me near as much.

Read that TSB. Some aluminum panels were contaminated with iron particles before painting, eventually leading to the corrosion you see here.
