I grew very tired of not having any storage space in this car, so I took matters into my own hands this weekend with my dremel and a soldering gun:

Since I have an aftermarket head unit, I lost the function of the disc changer in the glove box. So I figured, why not use the extra room that the changer took up? I reused the old top from the small user manual compartment, cut it off and moved it up. I bought a couple black ABS desktop file folder holders from target for 2 bucks, and cut pieces out of those to use as the new sides of the compartment.

This was just the dry fit, to see if I could keep it at the same height. I have yet to finish up the pplastic welding, sanding, and refinishing.

Comments? Keep in mind that this is not finished yet...
 
Hey good job with that. Yae the glove box in the LS is the worst I have seen.

Just curious, did you come to a conclusion on those wheels you were looking at?

I haven't come to a conclusion on wheel finish, but yes i'm getting those wheels. They are however out of stock for a month or 2, so I have some time to make up my mind...
 
That is cool man, what ever finish you decide to go with will look good. Those are some classy, yet sporty wheels.
 
Idk if thats a Ipod dock or what, to the left of the glove box.. My LS doesn't have that, but would like to. Also good job on the install. I would rip my 6 disc changer out too if I had an alternate head unit to install.
 
Yes, that's a cable for an ipod interface. I routed the cable there to hide the ipod, since I can run the functions through the head unit touchscreen. I plan on mounting a cellphone holder in that small area to mount the ipod to have a more finished look when I'm done.
 
why didnt you just get ahold of a glovebox from an indash changer model? That is the reason I was hell bent on finding an indash changer model.... Not for the changer, I'm doing a D3 install this weekend. The storage space in these cars is HORRIBLE!!!!
 
It does look good though! Have you considered carpeting it to hide the melted plastic "welds?" Get som 3m spray adhesive and some speaker carpeting and just cut nice lines and fold where ever posible
 
You know, I thought of that when I was almost finished. But this one cost me 2 bucks, and I learned how to weld plastic!
 
It is far from finished at this point. I am going to finish up the welding, sand it down, and refinish. When I'm done it will look very close to stock.
 
just finished the first filling/sanding. There are areas that I need to fill more, but here are some pics so far. Remember, this is my first try at plastic welding:

personally i don't mind that my LS has zero storage space because it forces me to keep her nice and tidy ;) and i like the original 6 cd system, gives it that oldschool Lincoln look in the interior, i don't like how aftermarket heads look in there. but pektel that was a nice mod nonetheless, good work.

Which aftermarket head units are you referring to? the single din, double din, or both?
 
i didn't even know that the space in the glove box was so reduced till i saw steve's LS. Mine has plenty of storage space and i do pack the crap out of it. a few tools and audio stuff
