Genuine LSE?

New member here and I'm looking to buy an LSE. Is there any way to tell an LSE from a regular LS that someone has thrown the LSE bodywork on?

Also any common problems I should look out for?

The only true way is to have the VIN and call Lincoln to find out. Also, the LSE's only were made in 2002, 2004 and 2005. Those were the true LSE years. The 2006 LS has the LSE appearance package on it other than the rear lip spoiler so it really isn't a true LSE since it is badged as an LS.
 
isnt the LSE the only one that comes V8? i always had that assumption for some reason.. i could be wront though
 
The only true difference between an LSE and a Non LSE is the bodywork. Pre 03 the LSE also had different exhaust tips. Mechanicaly they are identical.

All model years of LS (LSE or not) have had the V6 and the V8.

I have added the LSE bodywork from an 04 to my car. I also went with the 02 LSE spoiler because I like it better than the ones on the 04.

The LSE was not available in 2003 and when it came out in 04 I had a small accident which gave me the opportunity to replace my bodywork with the LSE stuff under insurance :)

Since my car is a Premium Sport with V8 there is no mechanical difference to the LSE.

Another tell-tale difference is the tail lights. They are 100% red on a 'true' LSE but are red and white on the '06.

That will only be noticable on the 2004 and 2005 LSE's. The rest of the 03 and up LS's have the two tone tail lights. This does not hold true for the 2002 LS since they shared the same tail lights as the regular LS's.
 
Also, the LSE's come with LSE tagged floor mats (at least the '02 models did).

All of the badging should say LSE all the way around. Also check for the paint matched grill surround. Past that, there's no real way to tell except for the VIN numbers. Also as previously mentioned, the '02 LSE's are going to come with dual exhast tips that split into four pipes in the back. My LSE did not come with a spoiler so i'm not sure if that matters. I believe the paint colors on the LSE were restricted to two types of silver and black. CHeck for the standard features of the LSE including the 17 inch rims. IF an of these do not match up, then you've got a conversion.

IMHO if you can find a true to factory conversion it shouldn't really matter, because it's going to be the same car. You'll know, but no one else will

The 4 pipe exhaust setup up was only for the pre 2003 LSE. The 2004 and newr LSE ahs the same tips as the NON LSE

All Sport, Premium, Ultimate, and LSE models came with 17's standard, not just the LSE's.

Once again it is a body kit (and special exhaust tips on the early ones).

The body kit includes paint matched rear license surround, paint matched grill surround, different front Bumper covers and different rocker panels.

The Pre 03 LSE has a different rear bumper cover (with cut outs for the quad pipes).

The 04 and newer LSE have a different (paint matched) valance on the rear bumper.

Spoilers were optional in some LSE's Newer ones came with a lip spoiler for a while.

I believe all of the 06 LS's came with the LSE body kit standard but were not badged as LSE's.

This is only a small percentage of the permutations.
 
Definitely not (the picture is terrible) but you can't find a few differences

The front bumper is NOT an LSE bumper. It actually looks like the Wings West kit. The fog light lenses are also squared whereas the LSE's are rounded (at least on the '02). If you want something to compare it to, I have some detailed shots of the front end of my '02 LSE in my profile.

The grill surround is not paint matched, it's chrome.

Also if you look at the rocker panel trim, it doesn't have the little flare out behind the front tire and before the rear tire.

All LSEs have the circular fog lights (as opposed to the D-shaped LS fogs).
All LSEs have all-red taillights.
All LSEs have body-colored grille and license plate surrounds.
All LSEs have chrome bars in the grille.
All LSEs have body-colored skirts (as opposed to gray/black on LSes).
2002 LSEs have quad-tipped exhaust ('04-'05 LSEs have standard exhaust tips).
All LSEs have a deck lid spoiler.
At least for '04 and '05, LSEs had special 7-spoke lightweight chrome wheels.

2006 LSes have all the elements of the LSE package except for the special chrome wheels, all-red taillights, and the deck lid spoiler.

Not all LSE's came with deck lid spoilers. I have an OEM '02 LSE that is spoilerless (I like it that way).
