genII Idle Air Control (IAC) valve AKA 'throttle body motor' cleaning

Gen II does not have an IAC. That is a throttle body motor for throttle-by-wire.
Gen I has traditional manual throttle body with a separate IAC. The IAC has a flap that is moved by a solenoid to permit air to flow through. It gets gummed up with typical intake deposits. The PCV also runs through there, so you also get some oil and combustion byproducts.
The IAC is more in the $100 range.

I don't believe anyone has ever said to clean the Gen II IAC, although several folks familiar with the Gen I idle issues may have suggested that unwittingly to Gen II owners.

gen II v6 has an IAC aka a 'throttle body motor'. admittedly, i could have titled the thread a little better to limit to v6 and avoid any confusion.

unfortunately the shop manual for an 05 goes into zero detail on the IAC. it took me forever to even find the part due to the naming issue on the parts website calling it 'throttle body motor'. if you do a little bit of searching on the dorman part #, some places are calling it IAC.

mine makes a little bit of noise when its cold, doesnt really affect the idle itself in a noticeable way, just the occasional noise

...

Yep, no IAC after they went to throttle by wire on gen II, true for the V8 and the V6. Idle control is accomplished by adjusting the main (only) throttle as needed.

hmm 05 shop manual mentions an iac valve; 3 yrs is a long time to leave in a misprint, but im sure crazier thigns have happened
i admittedly dont know enough about it; i just know that the silver solenoid looking pce looks a lot like an IAC from the outside and is mounted right where an IAC would be mounted. and some part sources are calling the part an iac and others calling it throttle body motor. could have swore someone on here was saying they cleaned what they thought was a gen 2 iac on a v6
