I know a few here have done this swap, so I need to do a little brain picking (please)....

I've got all the necessary components, including the harness ends straight out of the GenII car. My intention is to cut off the GenI connectors and install the wires into the GenII connectors so that I have a plug & play install. But before I start cutting things, I am going through each plug to ensure I have the correct wires matched up...

I figured I would start with the easiest piece, the passenger side door lock. On the GenI harness, there are three wires - lock, unlock, & ground. On the GenII harness, there are seven - lock, unlock, ground, one for "instrument illumination", one leading to the fuse panel labeled "hot at all times", and two red/black wires that don't show up on the wiring diagram (looking at 110-1 of a shop manual for a 97, which these harnesses allegedly came out of).

I don't need/care about lighting the switch at night, so the instrument illumination wire will be unconnected. The "hot at all times" wire is dark green/purple and there is no match on the GenI harness.

So the question: matching up the lock/unlock/ground wires to the GenII switch yield a completely not working switch. I'm looking at that green/purple wire and I wonder if the GenII switch is some type of powered switch of some sort? Should I connect it to a hot wire? I haven't done so yet for fear of frying the switch, or one of my components, but I'm hoping I can get some direction from someone who's done this before. Anybody have any idea what the two red/black wires are? Odd that they have two identical wires...

Thanks in advance!

Thanks man, will do. I also remember KC96LSC did it.

Played around a little more this morning - got the window switch all set to go. Odd, I would have figured that to have been more difficult...

I opened up the wire harnesses a little and discovered the following:

From the unlock switch, the black/red wire goes directly to the connector. The ground heads down towards the courtesy lamp - it appears that the courtesy lamp shares a common ground with the unlock switch and whatever switch is up there at the door handle. Said door handle switch has the aforementioned common ground and the second black/red wire from the connector.

Since the GenI car doesn't use that door handle switch, I would venture a guess I won't even need to connect that black/red wire to anything, and since the courtesy lamp has its own wires in the GenI car, it would appear I can just go directly from the ground on the switch to the ground in the connector and be good. The only questions are the above about that green/purple wire and what on earth is the black/red wire from the unlock switch to the connector. Really would have helped if it were on the schematics, lol.
