Wher is the computer(main brain) located on the 2000 ls 3.9 .Wouild just like to know.
What in the world was ford think thinking when it stake its reputation on this car.
How come this car only has one recall from ford otherwise they call it the perfect car apparently everyother LS out there never breaks down.

Is their any feedback as to how many mile the basic engine is good for ?

The first one:
Behind the glove box / A/C filter (Ones to get to the connector, other is to get to the computer itself)

Second one:
Can't be answered.. Depends on how the car was/is being taken car of.. A little TLC will get you a long way.. :)

Theres guys on here in the 200,000 mile range.

But that depends on the owner honestly.

Proper maintenance and not too much abuse and any car can last.

It really is a good car from my experience so far...its just picky about certain things and has a complex electrical system. Im sure it would be much more reliable with a 4.6 and not the aj-v8.

Thanks 117000 been thru coils plugs ,ball joints,Hyd fan motor and various other issues in 40,000 miles kind've like the car but seriously mechnaicaly a nightmare even for for time mechanics (dealer mechanics run from this car ) I have gotten a minimum of 200,000 miles out of eveyother car i ahve ever owned but this one even ford runs from when ask a question Every 3000 mile oil is change, air fiter checked(K&N) check any wher from 1500 to 2500 miles

Eveything is stock have open up breather box was suprised to see such a restricted inlet in it

My 04 is at 98k miles and all I've had go on me is a DCCV and 1 coil.
I also replaced the original battery in november because it didn't have much reserve, wouldn't start the car if I reflashed the ecm with the sct flasher.
I stumbled upon a virtually new 05 engine from a crash test for 600.00 a few years ago and swapped out plugs and coils last week.
Took me 2 1/2 hrs.
It was due and the car was stumbling under load even with retarded timing but now it's as good as new and joyful to drive again.

OP: Note that the other modules (FEM, REM, cluster, a few others?) play a very large role in this car. Think of it as a distributed brain.

this is pretty much how every other car out there is with the exception of a few high performance cars
