Someone help!
Tonight on the way to dinner I get an illuminated engine light (sometimes it flashes) and the car is noticably studdering. So I stop by Autozone before they close for Christmas and have the codes read. It reads a P0303 and a P0316 error code.
Does anyone have any experience with the P0316 error code??
The P0303 is a misfire in cylinder 3 caused by Plugs, ignition wires, coils OR Vacuum leak OR Injector fault OR High/Lo fuel pressure (according to the Autozone printout).
The P0316 code is described as a "Crank sensor condition" which is caused by a fautly crank sensor OR sensor wiring OR something called a trigger wheel (again according to the Autozone printout).
I was hoping for a unplugged wire or loose hose under the hood that I could just fix up myself. No such luck. 2nd best would have been the PCV valve which would be covered under an extended warranty from Ford (got that letter last year).
Either way I am 200 miles from my home visiting family for the holiday and wondering if I can make it home with the car missing like it is...
This link seems to indicate the two are related and if I fix the misfire the P0316 error will go away.... of course it says nothing about a "crank shaft position sensor" being related to that error either. I do tend to trust a Ford published document over Autozone...
