Just another little project to keep me busy

I have a few sets of spares, this housing has terrible chrome and the lenses was cracked ... so I'm gonna play with it

You read my mind, I started a project like this last year, but I left the amber reflector. It’s still sitting on my shelf half done. Got caught up in life and hopefully come back to it this winter. I could never get the trim-brite to look right in the reflector but I did manage to mold some plastic to the light. How thick of lexan are you using? Are you going to re-chrome? How did you go about removing the old lens?

I used a heat gun to soften the adhesive, directed at the adhesives channel on the housing side, moving the heat around with the gun barrel about 8 inches away. Heat was set at 600*, Welding gloves are handy for this ;).
So far I've heated it to the general shape and trimmed the excess, I haven't decided what to do about the inside yet, I may rechrome it, and then use some of the Duplicolor black chrome to see how it looks.
Going to place it an oven so the heat will be universal, its 3/8

if you end up with a couple of nice sets one for each side and want to get rid of them. let me know. mine are all cracked and broken its horrible.

Same here, that what drove me to crack one open. keep us updated, this is a good thread! I just used a dremal and slowly cut it open.

Cant wait to see the finished product! My corner housings are all cracked and yellowing, I have thought about doing this but was not sure how it would look. Good Luck!!

I still haven't messed with it anymore, too many other things right now. This was just something to keep me busy when I had free time to goof off, that time doesn't exist anymore

Well hey sapp, if you ever feel like making a few of these I'd gladly spend $100 on one of each before I'd ever pay that much on the junk people pass off as being "mint corner lights" on ebay.

Sweet. I tried removing the lens from one of my spare headlamps at 400 F. I was able to remove the lexan lens but it was too soft...major fail!! Fun stuff! I have another pair that I will try cutting the lens off. Then do the rechrome...if I have some spare time too!
