Gen II Intakes

Fun fact: K&N filters only actually filter if they are periodically cleaned and re-oiled. A dried out K&N filter doesn't actually filter very well.
I've never had one dry out either. Guess I'll look into cleaning it though, it's probably time.

Intake duct benefit

The first time I went to Maxton, NC to try ECTA Land Speed racing, I had factory everything in the intake tract and the factory exhaust. Two months later I had both an aftermarket intake duct, including the gauze-type filter, and also a complete cat-back Magnaflow exhaust system. Since my best run the first time was slightly better than my best run the second time, I concluded that I got NO GAIN from the additions.

By the time I installed the NX system and the stand-alone methanol delivery package, The intake duct and filter and the exhaust system may have made some degree of difference.

Looks like I'll be doing the exhaust before the intake... and both will be purely for the sound. lol

what? no the K&N filter was not the stock filter for the thunderbirds, the stock intake for the thunder birds is surprisingly just like the LS's stock intake.

the K&N intake is an aftermarket intake made specifically for the thunderbirds, it also woks on the LS because they use the same motor, and every thing bolts up the same

oh okay... i thought the tbird may have come with an upgraded version for some reason.
excuse the ignorance

I was lurking around on here and few other sites looking for definite answer on wether the k&n intake actually makes a difference or not. Seems like some people say it does and others say no. I decided to just go ahead and pull the trigger on one I'm supposed to be getting it this week so I'll post my experience.

well the way i look at it is like baby steps, first you need to allow more air into the engine, then you need to make it so that you can get more air out of the engine faster, then you make it so you can throw more fuel into the engine. now once those are all done, you have a good foundation to build on, now all you have to do is find a device to force fukc a lot more air into the motor along with a sh!t bang more fuel and you have the receipt for a delicious soufflé of torque and power you will have no problem noticing!
