Is it possible to retrofit a Gen 2 steering wheel on a Gen 1? Are the air bags interchangeable? Thanks

I don't know if this will help, But I took these numbers out of my 1997 service manual...If you have a gen 1 service manual, You can see if the numbers match? steering wheel # 3600
steering column lower yoke # 3n725
" " shroud # 3530
drivers side air bag module # 043b13
Now I'm assuming these are ford numbers! It worth a shot

No, they are different.
I found out the hard way when I bought a FRPP steering wheel, and it didn't fit on my Gen2, unfortunately.

Very odd, as the 93-96 has the same part number for the column.
How did you verify this ?

How was the spline different ? The 2nd gen has 10+ splines vs 2 notched sides on a 1st gen car.

i thought the Gen2 wheel was "keyed" and the Gen1 had the splines......like all other Fords of the time, the Gen2 wheel being just for Gen2............
never taken mine off, just from what ive read.........
maybe jamie can dig some up and solve this with some pics .............
and the FR500 wheel fits Gen1/T-Bird/Cougar's......not Gen2

Thats the problem I had. The 96 is keyed and can go only two ways - right side up and upside down. Then when you have to account for the cruise wires, only one way.
I also found this out when I did my custom steering. I forgot it was keyed and just put the steering in without considering I should center the steering wheel when I finished it off. I figured I could pull it and adjust a couple degrees here and there. But nope, no go.

all wheels 93-96 interchange, why the person above had a problem with a 95-96 wheels is odd, but any wheel from 93-96 will swap, they are double keyed with a flat edge on both sides, 97-98 will not fit 93-96 unless you have a very large hammer, a welder, or swap over columns, which obviously none of the above are even worth attempting, 97-98 wheels are splined.
