Ok maybe stupid question but i can get a 2002 with around the same miles as a 2005 for about 5 grand less. What are the over all differences with the gen 1 and gen 2 v8 LS??? Ive also noticed reading through threads that the majority of people having problems were gen 1 models. May be just a fluke but maybe not??? Any help?

I drive a gen 1 v8 sport my wife drives a gen 2 v8 sport. noticeably more grunt in the Gen 2. Interiror is nicer in the Gen 2. I like the gen 1 handling more than the gen 2 (stiffer ride). Had no problems with either and both have 50K.

One notable difference is that the Gen2 uses throttle by wire and the Gen1 uses the typical throttle cable system. Some find the TBW system difficult to get used to or just annoying. To me, it just took a little time to get used to. A proper tune can eliminate any lag associated with the TBW.

Generally speaking you are correct, the Gen2 car has fewer overall problems than the Gen1 did.... especially with the valve cover gaskets leaking and causing the COP to malfunction.

what about trans? I have one on the hook now that overall im not as impressed with but its a sweet deal and the guy can work with me a lot more. I drove the car and it had slight vibration in the wheel. Also before i left the passenger door wouldnt close for some reason and the guy had their mechanic fix it in like 2 mins. One other thing is i heard a funny almost wind type noise from around the cowling area. Never heard this on the other car or just didnt notice. The motor has substantially less miles but to me i could almost hear a slight belt squeak or something it didnt sound as clean. Any ideas on the problems i listed?

vibration in the wheel was it from the back wheel? if it was look it up under the tbs its a coomon issue i have that issue right now on my LS6

The stock tires are bad about vibration if it is cold and the car has sat for a while. If this is the issue, then it should have gone away after a few miles. Otherwise, four-wheel alignments are a very good thing to do on these cars.

Wind noise around the cowl could be a bad windshield seal, probably from a botched replacement.
Vibration... may be the wheels need to be balanced, may be it needs new tires, may be a bent wheel, bad alignment, bent hub, could be a lot of things.

Belt noise, new belt should take care of it. Any car that sits for along time is going to have some belt noise when it is started again because the belt will get dirt on it or dry out. Usually that will go away after a day or two of driving.

well i bit the bullet today. Signed my life away. Picked up my sweet new 2004 LS v8 black on black with 46k. I paid 12900 for the car. Does this sound like a good deal?

Considering that 18 months ago I picked up my 02 with 55k for 13.5. Id say you did pretty good. Could have probably done a little better, but that's a pretty decent deal. Hopefully you did no more than 36 months.
