Can you use a gen 1 engine on it's own without having the rest of he car wiring? I am thinking of building a hot rod with one but I am not sure it could be done with the stock ECM.

Second, can a stick be mated to this trans??? I can make a plate from the Getrag bell to a 302... Will my ECM have to be calibrated??

Surely you can get a better crate engine for less $ with more upside potential.

So it can't be done? AEM sells a universal COP ecu that supposedly runs anything.... I want to stuff it in an early ford. I loved both my LS rides, but had to sell em both... I want that hot rod though...

I am not too worried about the trans... it is going to be a 6 speed from a viper... I have a guy who is ready to finish up my adapter but before I go any further, I want to make sure this will work... if it does, then you should be able to convert any LS to this ecm, and run a stick!!!! HOT DAMN!!!

a hot rod with 252hp?

if you are talking about the AEM 30-1902 - it could technically be made to run it - however, no slight to you, but if you are asking then it may be a bigger project than you realize. Matching these systems to an engine often requires specs that are not readily available - so there will be a ton of trial and error.

at the end of the day - the 3.9L is just an engine - so yes you can make it work. But since it is unique, doesn't share many parts with other engines, and has low production numbers - it's a poor poor choice for a hot rod.

Thanks Quik... I thought of something unique, but I was worried, that I would run into major problems... I guess I'll stick to a 4.6 then...

you'll find a lot more info you'll need on the 4.6 - that way it's cheap to repair, cheap to upgrade and really a lot more options for you to bolt right on.

Exactly. I think the 4.6 would be more fun in the end. I like the 3.9 and wish that more development was done on it. But, for a hot rod I'd take the 4.6 or an older 5.0 for the easy HP. Of course, I am crazy enough that I think wankel engines are awesome.

Or at least unusual, and therefore, perhaps, worthwhile. And please note that the latest iteration of the AJ engine produces 510 HP. Not all bad!!

id just build a 302 into whatever. 306, 331...or if you really want to get nasty do a 408 :)
