Gen 1 Instrument cluster swap?

I have been searching for an answer to this question for quite a while. Is it possible to swap the Gen 1 instrument cluster with the Gen 2 one? I'm not sure where the digital odometer memory is stored. Odometer issue aside, has anyone tried?

Short answer is no. I just had a 1st gen cluster out last night because the tach wasn't working. I had several 2nd gen clusters in the garage, so I took one apart to see if I could maybe swap the tach. No dice. Too totally different clusters.

yeah, its not a thing.
you could maybe put a 1st gen cluster into a 2nd gen. maybe.., jeremi just wired an OBD2 swapped car to run a first gen tach.

but i really doubt you could go the other way.

i doubt you could do either and keep all the functionality. gas gauge and such.
