Gear selection light problems

Alright in the total of a week I've had my LS it's been a split between the light where the shifter is working and not working. It's not really that big of a deal but it's quite annoying. I was wondering what could be causing this problem? Or just a bulb on it's last leg?

Just replace the bulb first. They are very small ones, you get a package of two at the parts store for a couple of bucks.
Remove the upper console and it's easy to get the bulbs out. Removing the upper console is easy - pull out the rear vents on the back of the console, pull up on the back of the console compartment lid. Done.
