gas tank q & a

my buddy bought a 97 LSC and the fuel tank is leaking....i also noticed on my 98 LSC that the gen 2's have steel gas tanks...now the question i have is will a GEN1 plastic tank work in a gen 2? and why and the hell did ford goto steel on the gen 2's seems rather foolish, when the plastic is by far the best

main reason for asking is i have 2 gen 1 tanks that i removed and kept for whatever reason...but maybe it finally had a purpose

and i did a search came up with nothing

it wouldnt work even if it fit because the sending units and fuel pumps mount in the tank way differently. gen 1's are your standard pop in and hammer the ring to lock it in the tank, the gen 2 is a bolt down sending unit like the way they mount them in after market fuel cells.

I figured they were different but never hurts to ask guess my buddy needs to find himself a tank and ill thank my lucky stars I don't need one

Ya that's pretty much what I figured gonna check local and see what I can come up with atleast my car is not leaking
