Anybody have any good news? Last night I saw on TV that something happened on Wall Street, and they lowered the price per barrel of oil to $66. I have no idea what it was before, but it's a start. Also, one of my friends works at a gas station, and he says they're buying the gas for $2.57 a gallon and selling it for $3.50 plus. The tragedy of the hurricane seems to be some kind of money grab for gas companies.

I Work on Wall st and yea as of almost 1pm today price per barrel is 65.50. Problem is what unleaded gas is at. Right now its at 2.07. Which is somewhat good. Last week when the real devasting news came out of Gulf of Mexico it jumped to 2.90+. THATS BEFORE FEDERAL AND STATE TAXES AND THEN STATION MAKING PROFIT. Thats why we saw huge jump going into weekend. It didn't last that day it settled at 2.45 and now its back down to just over 2 and change. Problem now, why its still high is cause they're playing with our fears and saying there is a shortage of oil. BULLS**T! W e have the oil, The refineries that make it into fuel need to get going.

Right, it is a GAS shortage not an oil shortage. Recent reports from the coast are that the refineries were not as badly damages as initial assessments indicated. Hopefully they'll at least be running in a limited capacity very soon.

Gas here (I'm in Central MS, right at the edge of the damage) is back down to $2.99 and is again pretty available without much of a wait. You couldn't even FIND gas for almost a week.

2.99/3.09/3.19 most places here in kansas city, saw one station at 3.39 for premium though.

It's varying a lot and I have been travelling 300+ miles each weekend =/ sucks but gotta do what ya gotta do. atleast the LS gets 25-28mpg when you're cruising at 80-90 with little to no stops.

Because of these gas prices & '00 LS problems - I was close to getting an '04 Mazda6i or '05 Nissan Sentra 1.8l. While sitting at the Nissan dealership and thinking about paying $5k more for a little car - I looked out of the window and saw my black LS and thought damn, I guess I'm driving my fiancees' Ford Escort Wagon to work, because once the parts that fall apart get replaced I'll get another 80k miles before they need to be replaced again. I'm keeping the Lincoln!

Gas ->:F<- LS8 = :L Me :steering the LS!

i saw a citgo station today dropping premium from $3.19 to $3.09. so i guess it is slowly going down. for now!

ok well it at 2.99 here
so in shor terms you saying its still gona bne a month befor we might even see anyting like 2.50 agen man

Haven't really seen more than 2 or 3 stations there and their premium is at like $3.39 or so (pricks), good thing I still have 3/4 of a tank. Maybe it'll go back down when its time to fill up.

It's coming down a little here. I bought Chevron 93 a few days ago for $2.99. It about $.20 higher at every other station though.

$:q:q:q:q 87octane gas is about $2.94 here in L.A and premium is about $3.19

Let us put it this way as to how someone is making money off of us and us not being able to do anything about it (for the most part).
2 things to consider:
1 - Oil companies produced record profits for the last quarter..........hmmmm. I am sure demand has been increasing steadily, however, that does not mean that gas prices should be going up at the rate they have been lately. All this means is that big business oil (thanks GW Bush), OPEC and the middle eastern companies are raping us because they can. They know that we (or any other country besides them) cannot produce enough oil/gas to fulfill the needs of the consumers. Therefore, we are at the mercy of them and their pricing. I could go on and on about this, but for the sake of time and energy, I will leave it at that.

2 - If there was a shortage of oil like some are saying, we would have known about it years ago and the federal govt would have been mandating at more rapid pace that alternative sources of fuel be developed. As I see it, some companies are taking an initiative.......yet not a breakneck speed. We have predictors for everything under the sun (such as the Federal Reserve raising/lowering interest rates based on the future of the economy), yet we couldn't see the oil shortage coming? That is BS. This is nearly like the 70's when people were getting raped at the pumps...........which goes back to my first point.

All in all, the gas situation is ridiculous. There are people making a killing off of us right now. And why? Is it because they want us to cut back on demand? Not a chance.........they want us to use their product like it was going out of style. Is it because they want to make as much money as possible and they know that they will be able to because our demand for Hummers and other gas guzzlers is there and that regardless of the price at the pump, that people will eventually have to fill up? The answer to that is a resounding YES.

I cannot change the way I operate. I take the bus to class and drive to work..........there is no more that I can do and the oil companies and OPEC and the middle east know that. And as for Katrina.........it is just like any other national disaster: a scapegoat for someone to make more money off of us.

AMEN!

Here in Knoxville regular unleaded is $2.99 with 10 cent increments for the other grades. Have you ever noticed that when gas got above $1 it never really went below that ever again for any length of time. Also, it's the same as when it got above $2. You never saw it below that. I'm wondering if we are seeing the same effects with $3/gallon gas.

Thank god I'm at college or I might have to cut a hole in the floor of my car and do it Flinstone style
