Hey guys, I own an 02 LS V6. Love the car but unfortunately it now needs an engine, I was wondering if anyone knew if a duratec DOHC from say a 02 Sable/Taurus would work in the LS.

I know that intake/exhaust manifolds & other things will need to be used from the LS but the long block should be the same i would imagine...

has anyone tried this? Does anyone know for sure if it will or wont work.

Thanks in advance.

Easy does it, Black. Just lean back and take deep breaths and it'll be much easier on yah.

There was discussion here some time ago on this subject. And in addition, there was a thread on one of the Jag forums regarding using the Duratec engine as a replacement. You might have to deal with such things as mounting holes that must be added for the re-arrangement of the ancillaries.

Im strongly against a FWD application in this vehicle.

It already gets bashed enough....wrong wheel drive would make it even worse.

Now a simple engine replacement but still rwd is a different story.

Black to me it sounds like he just wants to know if the engine will work in the LS, not convert it to FWD.

I didn't see any suggestion of making an LS front wheel drive anywhere, just a suggestion of using an engine block from another car that happened to be front wheel drive.
The engine block swap may be possible, but is probably more trouble than it's worth.

Aren't pretty much all FWD blocks missing a motor mount on the transmission side and the other mount in a different location?

Seems like a lot of trouble, but anything's possible with enough time and money.

Thats why i said what i said.

I assumed going to a fwd setup right away.

The V6 in the LS is a Duratech variant. I believe the block is interchangeable. One of the reasons our first two LSes were V6s is because of the excellent service we received from the Duratech we had in a '96 Sable.

BlackLS, i didnt say anything about making my LS a FWD vehicle...that would be uderly pointless really!

Jolinc, you got it. FWD Duratec Variant in an LS. The reason why im considering this is because there is nothing cost affordable for the proper Duratec in my remote area. I ran into this once before with a 98 Camaro V6, couldnt find a wrecker motor anywhere so i did some research & was pretty sure a fwd 3800 out of a buick would work.

Did the swap & yeah a bit of extra time was involved but it worked flawlessly. The motor was out of an 03 Buick Lesabre. The 3800 Series II GM V6 however had very few changes throughout its use.
