Fuel Pump Removal?

I am assuming though that the jet pump can not be taken apart at all or that filter replaced with a standard small in line filter. what about doing away with the filter, seeing as there are 3 other ones. plus a regular filter up stream.

I've only heard of the whole assembly being replaced. I haven't heard of anyone who has repaired one.

In theory, there might be some way to bypass the jet pump to see if it is the problem, but I don't know of anyone who has.

hmm, Not sure it I really want mess with the Jet pump without a replacement in hand assuming something goes bad.

What are the two fuel lines that come out of the normal pump and go into the jet pump, is one of them like a vacuum release line to keep the tank pressure from creating a huge vacuum or something else

I think that one is fuel to the pump, and the other is fuel being returned from the jet pump. (Key words, "I think")

That is really the only thing i could imagine its doing I don't see why there would be two lines for fuel delivery but I am not the professional by any means. Other wise I'd be getting paid for this haha

I looked and a new jet pump is 300 and some dollars, and I only see it on the dealer site, Has anyone ever had luck finding these at regular parts stores. I do not want to buy a used junk yard one as I would have to drive to Cleveland hope they have it and then hope it works. I do not want to waste 4 hours...

Quite naturally I have both a fuel pump & jet pump for sale...

PM an interesting offer & I'll consider it...

They are from a 2004 that was totalled earlier this year & have been stored in a sealed plastic bag.
These were my spares before we bought the new home w/o a 2 story storage building

I have an 02 and my jet pump looks very different thank you though

so update,

All the vacuum lines were replaced last night so I'm sure I have no vacuum leaks.

Also cleaned out my IAC

What I am curious about though is what can be done with the EGR valve, what is the knob on top for, if this not functioning could it affect the vacuum to the FPR

Man, you've always got me spinning.

Knob on top? There's the vacuum line on the top, exhaust input on the back, exit to the manifold on the side.

oh now not that part the plastic thing slightly behind that

the round know on top spins, does that adjust anything what all does this do, this the egr solenoid correct

The round spinning part just holds a little air filter.
This is the solenoid valve that controls the vacuum applied to the EGR valve.

well Joe, I have done some more poking around last night i replaced the vacuum lines, it was cheap enough and that way I didn't have worry about leaks with the Fuel Pressure Regulator

I am just trying to go down the line here and figure out what things do and if they have any correlation with fuel pressure or anything

Joe, what is the larger canister shaped thing mounted to the driver side strut , has a small vacuum two lager lines and an electrical plug.

I have a set from a 2001 that was not stored in a plastic bag

I have a set, from a 2001 LS, that was not stored in a plastic bag. They have about 2 years of dust on them but should work since they have been stored in a dry location. As such, I did not offer them, but if you are interested, I will accept a decent "AS-IS" offer + S/H. Dates on the labels are 5/26/2001 & 9/14/2000 :xmas::steering

could this cause issue, I know back in the day cars and trucks had the charcoal canisters which when full or plugged up they caused all sorts of drivability issues.

I doubt it, but I think there is an easy test for you. Take the gas cap off and take a short drive. You'll get a check engine light, but if it drives okay for several miles, you'll know you have a gas tank venting issue. If it still stops after a few miles, you'll know this isn't it.

Okay drove with the gas cap off, drove great, I will test more later. I did not get a CEL at all though...is that odd?

It can take a while. You have to hit the right driving conditions for the leak test to trigger, and it probably has to fail a few times before the light is turned on.

Okay, and if it drives great with no cap what is the recommended fix, new cap I would imagine.

The vents in the cap can go bad correct? Works like a check valve or a baffle

Joe, I also want to say thank you for all the help with this, It has been one thing after another with this car for a couple months,

We have a strange relationship my car drives me up a wall but I still love her

There's no vent on the cap. Gas tank venting is controlled by the PCM using the purge valve and one other. The details are covered in the emissions diagnosis manual. I've [fortunately] never had to deal with it, so I don't have that manual. I know that there's some kind of spider that is bad about getting in the vent lines and clogging them.
