fuel pump problems

im trying to figure out what would cause my fuel pump on my 02 lincoln ls v6 to work when i turn the key over and then it dosnt work . i checked the voltage and its about 6-8volts when it turns on i have already bought a new REM and its still giving me a problem my car dont run but will turn on for a little bit . ive posted on here befor but i just wanted to start a new one because i know a little bit more about my problem
 
not with a tester just by pushing the valve and it has pressure when u turn the key on but then nothing the pump dosnt run after it primes
 
is there any sertain fuse or relay i should check or just check them all? ive checked the fuses once and didnt see any thing blown. idk what would cause the pump just to stop running after it primes
 
I need to get to bed and if not answered, I will look it up for you.. I would check the relay if there is one.. Might have sticky contacts..
 
If I'm understanding right, you turn the key, the pump runs briefly, and then stops? If that's what you're saying, it's OK, that's what it's supposed to do. After the rails are pressurized, the pump stops until fuel demand from the started engine requires it to run some more.

yeah thats what its doing but it dosent come on when the engin cranks i unhooked it and straight wired it and the engin will run idk what would cause it not to run after it primes

A communications problem between the REM and the PCM could cause that.
 
okay where can i buy one of these tools? i need to get to get this car back up and running it looks to good not to run....

Are you sure its just not a fuel pump going bad? You should be reading about 11 volts at the connector to the pump. Maybe that pump is just fooling you into thinking its something else.

For the guy who works on his own cars, I would wager the scan tool plus shop manuals are pretty indisposable. I would love to buy the autoenginuity scan tool.

So would I but spending 400 on Ford specific software is a bit much IMO.. You can get the codes ran for 60 bucks (well at my dealer)..

It will also allow you to program new keys (even if you don't have two working ones), and it will let you see most of the sensor readings in real-time. It allows you to trigger most of the various self-tests. (I wish it would do seat recal and AdvanceTrac recal. Those features may be added before long.)

It really is worth it if you are technically inclined and plan to have a car for a while. (If you get a brand other then Ford, then you can add it for around $200. The bundle is $400, $200 for the Ford software, and $200 for the base tool.)
 
Well I didn't know that (should have followed the link).. Then it's worth it.. I thought it was 400 for just the Ford software.. Hmmm :rolleyes:
