fuel filter

I'll add that it's on the firewall side. The inner fender liner is in 2 pieces. You only need to take out the one closest to the firewall

Don't forget the sliplock(right name?) tool. Easy...Bleed the fuel pressure from the valve on the fuel rail first unless you like the taste of gas.

or pull the fuel pump fuse and run the engine till it stalls to release line pressure.

not hard i just changed mine in like 30 mins getting the clips out is the hardest part put the cap on the other end so gas doesnt spill out.

That gas comes out pretty quick. I forgot about it, until it was spraying all over my jeans and shirt. I was more concerned with the state of the fuel filter I was replacing. It still looked pretty new. I'm wondering if that's a standard part dealers replace on a trade in, considering it's pretty inexpensive. If so, the fuel filter only had about 20,000 on it. But I already had the part, the wheel off and fender liner off, so I figured might as well change it while I was there.

What fuel filter is everyone using?

Purolator, Fram, Motorcraft, Wix or other? Please suggest and why?

Dont remember the brand but it was a nine dollar filter from the local auto parts store. What a difference. 20 minutes to install and my MPG went from 15 to 18 for city driving. Best nine dollars I have spent on my LS so far.

03LS8-

I got motorcraft simply because when I'm in doubt, I get OEM. Since it was designed specifically for my car, I figure at least there won't be any problems. And I think it was 12 or 15 bucks from Maxx at Five Star Ford.

Plus I was getting a new set of spark plugs from him at the same time, so I threw in a fuel filter as well.

On a separate note, I don't see where everyone is saying those coil covers are hard to get off. Unless you guys were talking about the valve cover bolts or something. but that last one in the corner by the firewall on the driver's side was easily accessible with some simple extensions on a ratchet. Plugs from start to finish took maybe 20 minutes.
