Any special tools required to replace the fuel filter? To disconnect the lines?

yes. that is correct. you can get the tool for like 6 bucks are your local auto parts store. its the same one for removing the fuel lines from the fuel rail. i didn't know this when i went to do this job. i ended up sitting for like an hour with a small flat head screw driver trying to push all the little pins in to get it out. some how by the grace of pure luck i managed to get it. now i own the proper tools :)

Shouldn't be the same with both gens?...I don't remember when I changed it on my 93 but my 98 didn't need any special tools

Yep, youll need a 3/8" fuel line disconnect tool. FYI, Orielly auto parts has our Motorcraft fuel filters for sale for like $12 bucks as opposed to $16-$19 AT THE DEALER.
