Wouldn't it be cool to have this for the LS?

AirIntakeFrontMountClose.jpg

I will be working on a project, its pretty simple. I stole the idea from another member but instead of using the cone shapes I will be using this filter and placeing it dead center of the bumper grill.

Ill have pics up soon but I probably wont start a few days. I'm going on vacation and will be starting it as soon as I get back.

Its pretty easy like I said. I'm going to extend the pipe "from" the MAFS leaving it in the factory position it is in down into the fender via the hole left from the factory intake box's air tube.

Heres my question, I will be needing to start off the intake with a 3" diameter so it fits the hole and there are more filters available in this size to choose from, then I will need to use a 3.5"-3" reducer since our MAFS adapters are 3.5".

Would this lead to any problems with the MAFS seeing on how it starts at a different diameter ( 3" ) but goes to the right diameter ( 3.5" ) before the MAFS?

looks nice. But honestly? I'd have to see a dyno chart comparing this against the stock box compared against a shielded cone filter, then make my decision.

HA HA Im just kidding man. I guess it was only funny in my head. I think Id probably stay away from the front mount filter kit only because you wouldnt gain any volume of air and it probably wouldnt be any colder. Plus when you add bends in piping it will slow down the velocity. About the headlights I really dont want to get rid of them that much as stated by my price but, I didnt want to pass up an oportunity to make some $. Im considering the 03+ conversion. anyway again I wan only joking.

me to..

But honestly I can see this makeing some difference. Might be minimal but I can see it making some and if done right its not that expensive at all.

I know if they made a kit like this specificly for the LS people would eat it up.

Oh and even if they were over priced, I probably would have bought them if I didnt buy that other set anyways.;)

Here is a old junky K&N I put in my lower grille

you would be surprised at the difference this makes in the 90 degree heat. I normally run the K&N Typhoon, but the car loses like 100HP with all the heat that thing sucks in.

Im lost so you prefer the front mout or you dont?

the car doesnt feel like it loses any power with the front mount in 95+ degree heat. It loses a ton of power having the filter under the hood.

I run 4" tubing from the end of the K&N Typhoon tube to underneath the car.

Oh ok so I guess I was wrong in my earlier post. I have ment to ask you why you sold the angel eye headlights.

02'V8SPORT's the exact guy I got the idea from. Now thinking on it I might try to find a way to keep the pipes at a 3.5" diameter seeing on how it will create more curves in the line.

I think that filter needed some cleaning, it looks like it wants to suck itself in...lol

Yep its an older filter, its actually crushed from trying to get 4" tube inside of it. I was pushing really hard on it to get it on to the tubing.

I used 3" tubing before to fit the hole under the stock airbox and it seemed to choke the engine up a bit. Since then I dremeled the hole under the airbox to be able to fit in a 4" tube. The car even in 90+ heat drives like a bat out of hell. Top is a pic of the dremeled hole. Its bigger than in this pic now, my dremel bit broke and I took the pic right after. I bought a new bit and dremeled it even bigger now. The second pic is the 4" sewer PVC, which is much lighter and thinner than regular PVC, that I used to run under the car and into the filter at the front bumper.

COOL! I'm just heading out the door for my vacation now so as soon as I get back Ill be doing this project. I got all I need already and my body shop guy was supposed to help with this but he told me it is so easy and doesn't want to. I mentioned doing this before and now I'm finally getting to it.

I also asked him about a new intake tube with the MAFS adapter welded on to it, he said he could definitely do it but it would be very time consuming and could cost if he messed up once or twice and had to do it again so I'm leaving that be for now.

Im gunna run 3.5" all the way to the filter and then join the filter with a reducer cause I cant find any of these above 3". I would like to run it on a 4" pipe setup but I dont want to go 3.5" then 4" then 3". I think thats just a big mess.

Is the KKM easily heat-soaked in 90+ degree weather? Will I notice that much of a power loss? Austin right now is like 93+

Has anyone fabricated a heat shield?

Yes. My car is a dog in this hot and humid weather.

I haven't yet. It's been done though. Do a search for heat shield. There's a picture with dimensions and everything.

Eliot - See if you can get some royalties from your local municipality for doubling as a street sweeper.

So, in this case, would the stock airbox be better?

02V8Sport, being low like that do you have any concerns or problems with water? im thinking about doing it for my 03 V8, there's already a hole below by K&N filter, so all i really need to do is run a pipe.

:q:q:q:qty weather for a vacation, thank god for public libraries and the use of computers.

Well, I expected something from you LSCNYC but I bet I would have made more money sweeping up all the nuts and bolts those POS Marks you had left behind at the track. Someone with as much intelligence as you ( well as you act on ) would have thought maybe I wouldn't run this all the time. Maybe I would get into running at the track and just remove it for on the streets???? Funny how you always talk so much smack to me but others with the ideas get left out huh. Even went as far as threatening me once before???

No, IMO the LS gets pretty hot and even with the 90+ weather its still cooler than under the hood;) . Now the regular set up with just the opened intake like it should be helps the flow of circulation allot better around the filter than with the restriction of the box. I'm not saying this setup is ideal but its a real CAI setup if you ask me and it cant be as bad as having a big ass inter cooler sitting right down front to get damaged and have cracked.

Have you thought of that NYC? Did you make fun of everyone with a boosted car that has a inter cooler sitting right there?

They make a bypass for this type of set up, its a ring shaped filter and it catches the water before it gets to the throttle body. The filter I show I think might be better as they say that more surface space and area is better to have but his idea is as equal if you ask me.:D

Ive had this setup since 2002 on my 2002 black LS, never had issues so far. I stay away from any puddles.

First off, build something even remotely fast then you can talk all the smack you want. But by then even you would realize that if you're not breaking parts, you're not making enough power. Braided hoses, bicycle mirrors, wet sanding lines out of your headlights and a true cold air contraption aren't gonna do the trick. And no, 14s aren't fast.

Pull your APC sticker out of your vagina. I talk smack to you because you apparently do nothing but sit around thinking of ways to try and make your car unique. Some of which are better suited to the ricer guys you hang around with.

When was the last time that the actual fins of an intercooler sucked air into the intake stream? Why would I make fun of someone with an intercooler? It's a necessary part on a forced induction car. That contraption is gonna suck up dirt, sand, pebbles, twigs, etc. I know. I had a March Ram Air kit on my '87 before I put a blower on it. But then again, I don't talk from experience, I just pretend to know sh*t.
