I have what kinda sounds like a grinding noise from the front end while driving. When I turn to the right the noise quiets but stays the same while going straight or turning left.

Could this be from a bad bearing or hub? Any other suggestions on what could be causing the noise.

The hub assembly has sealed bearings. Change out the entire hub. I would suggest changing out both sides at one time. Rockauto.com and ebay have some that are very good quality, but some are flat out junk. Ebay's rating system usually tells the truth about a seller and their stand on what is good and bad.

yep I had same thing happen to me, it was hub bearing and don't buy non oem parts, I did and it was crap, went oem and worked fine first time

I would usually concur with this statement but I have found some parts to be better than oem like felpro gaskets, moog balljoints, moog sway bar bushings, and detroit axle hub assemblies. Parts like timing chain tensioners and coils must be oem for the car to react properly and to prolong the life of the car. Do your research and you will be pleasantly surprised with the results.

Thanks guys.

Is there any way to tell which side is bad?

I found some on on Rockauto and Napa, has anybody had a bad experience with any particular brand? Or can suggest the better brand to get. If theres no difference between OEM and aftermarket except for price then I'd just rather save the money rather than spend it on the OEM one.

Bank left/right while going on a straight road and pay attention to how the noise changes.

Turning the wheel left, sound intensifying means it's the right side (weight going to the right side of the car).
Turning the wheel right, sound decreasing means it's the right side, and vice versa.

I replaced one two years ago on my 2000 LS (105,000 miles). Used Ford OEM and now that side is gone again (138,000). Doing the job this week using a Timken bearing from RockAuto.

Thanks for all the help. It was the right front hub. I installed a Timken from rockauto.com and it solved the noise issue. It drives so much better too, it must have been bad for a while, it was all rusty inside. It took quite a long time to get it off, ended up using a torch since it was bonded to the arm.

Well that just sucks because I went with the Timken two years ago and ITS gone again. May as well just get the cheapest one which appears to be the Timken on rock auto. I bet if they were needle bearings they wouldn't be crapping out so fast.
